HOPE Club and Prevention Purpose:

In the United States, suicide is the third leading cause of death. In Illinois, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth, ages seven to fourteen. In our community, each spring there is a typical increase of suicide referrals among both males and females, and this is reflected nationally as well. Suicide, depression, and bullying are all heartbreaking issues we are facing not only as a community, but as a nation today. HOPE, a club at both St. Charles East and North High Schools as well as all 3 Middle Schools in d303, takes preventative measures to address many of these issues and provides a supportive environment to others by spreading their mission of prevention and awareness. This spring, HOPE Club will host a 5k run/walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention, anti-bullying, and character development for all ages. This event is a great and fun way to come together as a community to spread a positive message to stop this preventable cause of death.

HOPE Hustle Purpose and Goal:

The main goal of the HOPE Hustle 5k is described within the HOPE acronym: Helping Others Protect Each other. This event is something that brings together the community in a profound way. People of all ages meet in a enthusiastic environment with elements like music, gifts, exercise, and other uplifting activities and participants work together to get to the HOPE Hustle finish line! HOPE Club promotes getting people to communicate with others to achieve a common goal: spreading positive messages throughout the community and working to prevent negativity within society. As a result of event, healthy lifestyles will also be promoted. We hope that students, staff, and community members alike can see exercise in a fun way, which will make them want to exercise more. Increasing this healthy lifestyle and promoting positivity through teamwork will help spread the message of HOPE and lower the rate of depression, anxiety, and suicide, which has been a devastating issue within our community.
