The following information describes the classroom procedures, course expectations and objectives for students enrolled in this course. Students are expected to review this information with their parents and return the last sheet to me. This will be your first grade of the year.
Materials:
Every student needs to be prepared with the following items every day:
3-ring binder or folder for this class ONLY
pens or pencils and a highlighter
class books and workbooks
Chromebooks will be needed regularly for class. Chromebooks should be charged and ready to use.
Homework:
Homework is due at the beginning of the class period the day after it is assigned. If you’re absent, you are responsible for doing the missed homework and turning it in. Some classroom assignments will be completed in Canvas. You can email me if you are absent, and I will gladly send your assignments to you. You should also have the name and contact information for at least two students in the class so that you can get the assignments/upcoming activities if you are absent.
Attendance/Tardiness:
Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings to start class. Students will be marked “tardy” if they are not in their assigned seats at the appropriate time. Detentions will be assigned if students are tardy more than once. Please sharpen pencils and take out class materials before the bell rings.
Classroom Behavior:
Students are expected to behave in a respectful manner toward all other students and the teacher. Students are expected to raise their hands when they wish to participate and to listen carefully to their peers during class discussions.
Take care of all bathroom/locker needs BEFORE CLASS. If you need to leave during class time, you will be required to leave your phone with me.
In the classroom, the following are not allowed:
Cell phones and other electronic devices must be turned off and put in . Per school policy, cell phones will be taken to the Dean's Office if they are used in class.
Food and beverages: Please do not eat during class. You may eat during the passing period; just put away food before class begins. Water bottles are permitted.
Academic Dishonesty:
Students are expected to do their own work. Plagiarism (copying from the Internet), copying homework from other students, and cheating on quizzes or tests is not accepted. An academic dishonesty referral will be sent to the student’s parents, dean, and counselor. The school keeps a database of all academic dishonesty referrals.
Grading:
The following scale will apply--
A = 90% - 100%
B = 80% - 89%
C = 70% - 79%
D = 60% - 69%
F = 0% - 59%
Grading Categories:
Homework (15%)
Participation (15%): Regular and constructive participation is expected. Some in-class assignments and group projects will be assigned a participation grade.
Summative Assessments (70%): Quizzes, tests, writing assignments, projects
Extra Help:
I am available to help students during my preparation periods and before school. Additionally, there are tutors in the ELL Resource Center (room 2316) who can assist students during the school day. Students are encouraged to seek help as soon as they notice difficulty with the course material.
