Practice & Standards
This assignment is to get you ready for college and workplace expectations for attendance and behavior by coming to class on time and to be present and engaged appropriately in the activities of the class.
Total points (29 points = 29% of semester grade) will be awarded on the first day of class. Each instance of not meeting the standards, as described below, will result in a forfeiture of one point. If a student depletes all of their points before the end of the semester, but continues to not meet the standards, additional points may be subtracted from the total points available for the semester. Lost points will be noted in Canvas with corresponding codes (see below).
IMPORTANT NOTE: THESE POINTS MAY NOT BE EARNED BACK AFTER A STUDENT HAS LOST THEM.
Participation (P)
being present as an active audience (AA) member during the entire class, bell-to-bell.
This means that students must be in their seats and ready to take notes on the films/lectures from the moment the bell rings. If a student is not in their seat and ready to participate when the bell rings to start the class and rings to end the class, they will forfeit one point per instance.
They will be marked Unexcused Tardy unless they have a pass. Consequences for Unexcused Tardies are handled by the Deans Office.
During E-Learning Days, this will be determined by student attendance, work completion, or both.
being silent (Ta) and allowing others to see and hear the films
This includes sleeping (SL) or the disruption of packing up (Pu) before the bell rings.
SPOILERS - Spoilers are a selfish person's way of ruining a movie experience for other people. In this class, all 30 students deserve a chance to experience each film individually. When a person tells classmates about a film prior to those people getting to see it, they are deciding that his/her own experience with the film is more important than the experience all of his/her classmates. Each spoiler that I become aware of will result in a 10 point (A FULL LETTER GRADE) loss for the perpetrator. (SP)
