Senior Final Paper/Exam

This exam will assess your ability to 1.) reflect on your progress in Physical Education and 2.) to plan a personal fitness program for your future. You will write an essay applying important fitness facts and concepts you have learned to your own physical needs, interests, and goals. This essay has two parts:

PART I: REFLECTION PARAGRAPH

How have you changed during your years in the Niles West High School Department of Physical Education? Include evidence from your own experiences and from your Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) to support your observations. Include the following topics:

  • Fitness scores
  • Activity levels
  • Attitudes towards and interests in different activities
  • Diet/Eating habits and awareness
  • Injuries and/or setbacks (problems)
  • Medical conditions and hereditary concerns (medical problems that your family has)
  • Other relevant areas of change


PART II: FITNESS PLAN (5 PARAGRAPHS + CALENDAR)

Plan a personal exercise and fitness plan for the time after high school. Using specific examples, how will you maintain a healthy level of fitness after high school? Your answer should include the following:

  • PARAGRAPH: What workouts will you use? Give an explanation for these choices. Incorporate the components of health fitness including: cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and maintenance of optimal body composition. Make sure to discuss the frequency (how often), duration (how long), and intensity (how difficult) of the activities you will use.
  • CALENDAR: Provide a sample weekly plan you could use during the next four years of your life. Take into consideration injury adaptations, medical conditions (problems), and hereditary or safety concerns.
  • PARAGRAPH: How will you adapt this plan for different stages of your life? Explain why these changes will be necessary. The different stages of your life might include college/post-high school, career life/parenthood, and retirement.
  • PARAGRAPH: What are your short and long term diet and eating goals?
  • PARAGRAPH: How will you keep yourself motivated to accomplish your plan?
  • PARAGRAPH: Why is maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important?


PAPER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, standard margins
  • Minimum 2 pages
  • Standard written English
