AP Biology
AP Bio Course Guidelines and procedures
AP Biology is the equivalent of a two-semester college-level introductory biology course (for majors). Students in this course will study biology through four major themes: Evolution, Interactions, information storage and transfer, and energy exchange. Students will develop advanced inquiry and reasoning skills such as designing a plan for collecting data, analyzing data, applying mathematical routines and calculations to interpret data, explaining scientific concepts, using and developing models, and crafting scientifically supported arguments.
COURSE FRAMEWORK
The AP Biology curriculum is set by College Board and is organized into 8 units. Each unit embeds and spirals the scientific practices which are central to the study and practice of biology. Students develop and apply the described practices on a regular basis.
Science Practices
Explanation of concepts: Describing & explaining biological concepts in applied contexts
Visual Representations: using and developing models
Questions & Methods: Asking questions, posing hypothesis, making observations, planning investigations
Representing and Describing Data: Constructing graphs, describing data/trends/patterns, identifying relationships between variables
Statistical Tests and Data Analysis: Performing statistical tests and mathematical calculations to analyze and interpret data.
Argumentation: Develop and justify scientific arguments using evidence
