Mrs. Marla Caballero, orchestra teacher and conductor - Marla Caballero has been the Director of Orchestras at Fremd High School since 1993. Her hope is that students would have a growing love of music as they grow in their desire to improve and share their musical gifts through performance. A graduate of Fremd High School, Mrs. Caballero earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and Master's Degree in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music. She has been a guest conductor and clinician for the ILMEA District 7 Junior High Orchestra, the University of Illinois Jr. High Orchestra Consortium and for local school districts. Marla is honored to have been named the Illinois ASTA Outstanding School Teacher in 2014. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American String Teacher’s Association. However, she is most proud of the community of young musicians that she has helped developed, in partnership with the teachers in District 15, area private teachers, youth orchestras and the technique class teachers at Fremd. It’s such a privilege to be a part of the process as these students grow as musicians while making music with their friends!
When not teaching, Mrs. Caballero enjoys playing in the Kairos String Quartet, watching her son's baseball games and traveling. Most importantly, she enjoys spending time with her family, son Gabriel, step-daughters Anna (Steve), granddaughters Ryleigh, Camryn and Ashton and Ashley (Eddie) and grandsons Liam and Roman. Marla, husband Frank and Gabriel currently reside in Rolling Meadows.
