Frequently asked questions

Applications for the Seal of Biliteracy are open to all Vernon Hills High School students.  

It is recommended that VHHS language students test during their 4th or AP year of language study.

How are students' language skills assessed?

Students taking the AAPPL and STAMP exams are assessed in the ACTFL modes of communication including: interpersonal listening & speaking, presentational writing, interpretive reading and interpretive listening. 

What if I don’t pass?

Students can retake the part(s) of each of the tests during the next round of testing (Fall/Spring).


How do I receive testing accommodations?

Accessibility features are embedded in AAPPL. More information on requesting specific accommodations here. If you need to request testing accommodations, please contact World Languages Department Chair Tammie Black.


When will I receive my results?

Complete results for the AAPPL or STAMP test are available within 2-4 weeks.   ALTA results are typically within a week.
