What's in my folder?

At the Class of 2027 Open House, each student received an individual folder with important information for both Course Selection for Freshman Year and the Open House. Use the image to the left to learn more about the folder contents or access any documents that may have been misplaced.

Since Open House has concluded, it is now time to focus on items #1-5 below in preparation for choosing classes.

Important Information for Freshman Course Selection (left side of the folder)

All students received the following in their folders...

1. Your personalized appointment time to select classes **DO NOT LOSE**: This is when each student is scheduled to meet with a GCHS Counselor to select their freshman electives. All students MUST bring their yellow course selection sheet with them (#2) to their meet with a counselor. Please note this appointment is with a GCHS Counselor who may or may not be your student's counselor. Questions about your student's appointment time? Please contact Lauren Sunde, Counseling Secretary, at lsunde@d127.org, prior to January 23, 2023.

2. Yellow Course Selection Sheet **MUST BRING WITH YOU TO MEETING WITH COUNSELOR*: This sheet contains all of the possible courses freshman can choose from. The front is used by the counselors (please do not write or highlight) but the back of this sheet can be used as a worksheet to draft/outline preferred courses. If requesting a level change when meeting with a counselor, the back of this form that must be signed by parent/caregiver. Please note this appointment is with a GCHS Counselor who may or may not be your student's counselor.

Schedule of when course selection will occur at each middle school:

  • 1/24/23 - GMS

  • 1/25/23 - GMS, Woodland

  • 1/26/23 - St. Gilbert, Fremont, PCCS

  • 1/27/23 - Park

Attend a middle school not on this list? Please contact Lori Mitchell, Counseling Department Chair, at lmitchell@d127.org, by January 27th to select courses. Please gather any documentation (report cards, test scores, etc.) ahead of time to aid with placement.

3. Core Placements **MUST READ**: This document outlines the course selection process for freshman, lists each student's PSAT8 Math and ERW score and course placements for math, English, science, and social studies. It also lists how to request a Level Change. All level changes must be submitted by February 1, 2023. Questions about core placements? Please contact the respective department chair.

4. Choosing Classes With Purpose Letter (Career Pathways Information)/ en español: Using elective classes can be both a time and money saver for students and families because it helps your student narrow their focus of study before graduation. Exploring courses is primarily done through electives and career pathways. Please contact Gina Schuyler, CTE Department Chair for Careers and Community Partnerships, at gschuyler@d127.org.

5. Setting Up a PowerSchool Parent Portal Account: This letter contains the unique Access ID and Access Password to create a Parent Portal account on PowerSchool, which is used for registration, grades, and scheduling. Questions regarding setting up an account on PowerSchool or misplace your unique Access ID and Access Password? Please contact Kristine Breault, Data Specialist, at kbreault@d127.org.

Select students, based on PSAT scores, received one or more of the following in their folders...

6. Invitation to AP World History or AP Human Geography (Social Studies)

7. Invitation to Chemistry Honors (Science)

8. Invitation to Project Lead the Way (CTE)

Students not receiving one or more of the letters above did not qualify based on PSAT scores; however, there is always the opportunity to change levels for sophomore year.

Missed the Open House and picking up your student folder?

Student folders have been dropped off at each respective middle school for distribution.
