History & Conflict:
The town of Weeping Willow was established in 2040 after the Mass Migration to space in 2028.
Prior to 2028, climate change began to consume the Earth. Habitat extinction, fiery deforestation, and resource-less land, made the world mostly uninhabitable. Humans had to flee to space, with the last ship to leave in 2028. Those that fled consisted of the educated and members of the upper class, leaving only a few of their own stragglers. The majority left behind were a society of people who were once never regarded as meaningful contributors, but now left with the task of creating community in a withering world.
Unrest plagues the town. After the mass migration, there was looting and some death in the outskirts of town near the wasteland. Most of the townspeople stay clear of that area, as there is a lot of death out there.
The town has been able to survive thus far because at the center of the town stands an old willow tree, thousands of years old. Rumor has it that it provides resources and holds a power over the people. The legend of the tree has been passed down, where the citizens have been convinced that the town solely thrives when the tree does. It has never shown any signs of dying, until one day when a young girl tries to climb it and accidentally breaks a branch. The tree starts decaying and chaos develops throughout the village; those that remain are worried they will all die.
Secrets are abound in this town. It is possible the broken branch holds a key to the town's preservation? Is something other than a broken limb the reason for the breakdown of the tree? Perhaps it's in the water? What motive would the townspeople have in killing a tree that is said to be keeping them alive?
Time is running out. Who will save this town before it perishes?
