Students explored how materials such as graphite pencil, colored pencil, water color paint, oil pastel, colored paper collage, and marker can be used to create different elements and principles of art and design.
Cubist Portrait
Students studied the characteristics of Cubist artists such as Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Georges Braque and learned about tone, tint, shade, value and saturation as they created their cubist inspired portraits.
Cubist Sculpture: Two Faces of Emotion
Students used wire, wood, nylon, gesso and acrylic paint to create an abstract sculpture inspired by Picasso's late work. Students used wire to create the contour of two faces and color, shape and facial features to express the separate emotions of each.
Formline Art
Students studied the formline art of different Northwest Native American tribes and how art and symbolism is used to tell the story of beliefs, heritage, and culture. Students created personal symbols that represented their identities in the style of formline art.
