About art

Get Smart, Make Art!

The visual arts are an integral part of education in D105. My instruction provides developmentally appropriate methods of creating and learning art. My goal is to introduce my students to a variety of artists, art mediums, art movements, art styles, and art techniques. Students explore art criticism through analyzing, interpreting, reflecting and making decisions about their own work and that of others. Art lessons include interdisciplinary and multicultural connections. The program is designed to facilitate the development of learning and to grow student understanding and creation of art work.

Our students develop visual arts skills across three different units: drawing, painting and sculpting. Each artist studies techniques and creates projects specific to his/her grade level. Be sure to ask your artist what he or she is working on right now!

Meet the Teacher: Jessica Colton

Greetings! I have been in our school district for over seven years. I have my B.S. in Developmental Psychology (Loyola University Chicago) and my M.A.T. in Elementary Education K-9 (National Louis University). I also graduated this summer witn an Ed.S. in Curriculum & Instruction and an endorsement in Special Education. When I’m not teaching Art, I enjoy working out and spending time with my family: husband Kevin and two sons, Calvin (11) and Cameron (9).
