The Warriors Cricket Club is new to Daniel Wright Junior High School. Join us for the 2021-22 school year as players from all grades enjoy the world's second-most popular sport.
In 2022-23 Warriors Cricket meets every other Friday in room 105 for a kit (gear) check and brief meeting, followed by either an indoor or outdoor practice/game session depending on the weather. We will meet all year.
All students from all grades at Daniel Wright Junior High School are welcome to join. There are no tryouts, and no previous cricket experience is necessary.
Students interested in joining the Warriors Cricket Club should visit the following link for permission forms and club fee information:
On 10/4/21, The Warriors Cricket Club came into existence.
Over 40 students on our roster are in motion every minute of every practice.
Parents welcome any time. Above, ace cricketeer Vikram Bhardwaj instructs the finer points of fielding a cricket ball.
Our coaches are a fun mix of youth and adults. During our 10/18/21 practice, Youth Head Coach Om Bhardwaj runs the show.
In the WCC, Daniel Wright students learn to conduct meetings, make agendas, set a calendar, and a host of other skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
A full-sized pitch projected to be built in 2022!
During our 10/25/21 practice, the Warriors take to the relatively dry blacktop during a break in a day of rainstorms.
Sleep, Eat, School, Cricket, Repeat.
In a game where the tiniest nations often defeat global super-powers, it is never the size of the dog in the fight; it is the size of the fight in the dog.
During our 11/1/21 practice, the youth coaches decide to spend a blustery afternoon just playing cricket and having fun.
It's called "playing" a game for a reason!
The Warriors Cricket Club includes students from over a half-dozen nations, a wide range of cultures, and a world of different experiences and interests. No experience needed: join us for friends and fun!
Krish Bandi -call sign "Bandit"- models the proper way to wear protective equipment.
Check in for our late spring shirt/jersey store opening!
During our 11/8/21 practice, student coaches lead through example and instruction, practicing leadership skills that will serve them a lifetime.
Those who can't do, teach. Right? Um, wrong.
Youth coaches and players both learn from cricket players with decades of experience.
The Joy of Victory.
The Agony of Defeat.
Warriors Cricket Motto: WAY more fun than chores, homework, or an after-school job.
Our Founder, Vaasudev Kulkarni, also known as Cricket Boi.
Joining the Warriors Cricket Club for our 11/15/21 practice is 8th grader and ace tennis player, Carolyn Ryan, immediately becoming the greatest Irish-American young woman 14-and-under cricket player in IESA history. We think. We'll check on that and get back to you.
New Warrior Cricketeer Ryan learns to field: teammates soon discover she can cover pretty much the entire area by herself, all the way back to the white Toyota. Its windshield was already broken when we got there, by the way.
Ryan learns to bat with the outstanding tutoring of our youth head coach, Om. She is cheered on in the background by resident fielding coach/motorcycle enthusiast/gangster film expert and sartorial artist, Hasin "Stone" Khan.
First pitch = Ryan goes yard.
Cricket Boi works the phones relentlessly in the offices at Cricket Central, recruiting other middle schools around the area to add cricket teams. If you have friends at other schools who love to play cricket, tell them to organize a club!
Coach Arjun D. works tirelessly over the long Thanksgiving holiday break organizing Zoom meetings, creating practice agendas, and producing alternative flyers for the club. Thanks, Arjun! We couldn't do it without you!
That's how we roll at the WCC.
When it's 39 degrees outside (well, 1 degree in India and the rest of the cricket world) you have to keep moving to keep warm.
Look Into Our Eyes! Fear Us!
Scrimmage, scrimmage, scrimmage. The best kind of club meeting. Our 11/29/21 practice.
Winter? Not fun. Learning secrets to bowling 100 km/hour? Fun.
Work that core.
Newest member Owen Gobble (in team jersey) learns proper bowling form.
WCC Returns to the pitch!
Cricketeers brave the icewater to sharpen their skills
Scrimmage!
8th graders experience their first "ice bowl" cricket! Bring it on, Aptakisic!
Warriors Cricketeers took advantage of the newly-built custom cricket pitch, built double-fast over the winter break. One of, if not THE finest middle-grades cricket facility in the world! Yes, the meeting was on April Fools' Day. Do the math.
The Warriors Cricket Club met in driving rain mixed with snow on April 8th, braving 38 degree temperatures and below-freezing windchills to practice fielding and passing. The roughest, toughest cricketeers in the North Suburbs!
