Social Emotional Learning

In D101, we recognize that academic learning cannot be the only focus of classroom instruction.  In order to help meet the needs of the whole child, D101 has created a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum that prioritizes our students’ social and emotional health.

First and foremost, like any other curricular area, students can anticipate fully articulated goals, learning targets and lessons. Consistent with all D101 curriculum development, our teachers, via a K-8 representative district committee, have reviewed available research, built a learning progression, written grade specific lessons--aligned to State standards--and selected corresponding resources with our students in mind. You can find the D101 SEL learning progression here and on our website.

Throughout the school year students will experience a series of lessons that focus on the goals that the D101 SEL committee identified as being most beneficial for our students.

Students will participate in SEL lessons approximately twice per month.

Specifically, we will address three goals, all defined and required by the Illinois State Standards:

Please remember that SEL is not new in D101. Rather, much like math and science, it has undergone a curriculum review cycle, and we are now implementing updated, articulated curriculum, lessons and resources. As such, the D101 SEL curriculum committee will remain active gathering feedback and meeting on an ongoing basis this year to make revisions as necessary during our year long pilot. We will also use this pilot year to determine the best ways to share updates with parents regarding student progress.
