Special Events

Assemblies

Assemblies are provided to entertain, inform, and recognize student achievements. All students are expected to observe the rules of common courtesy when attending assemblies. Teachers who are responsible for groups attending a school assembly will remain seated with their group throughout the program. When there is an assembly, students are to report to their scheduled class and wait for their class to be called to the gymnasium. Students will then proceed with their class and sit in the assigned area. Generally, assignments are as follows:

6th graders—east main level 7th graders—west main level 8th graders—upper level

Assemblies are held at various times throughout the year for many different reasons. We expect students to show appreciation by applauding at appropriate times in an acceptable manner (i.e., no whistling, booing, or stomping/pounding on the bleachers).

Guests and visitors gain a lasting impression of our school by student conduct at assemblies.

Field Trips

When students go on field trips they represent our school. On days when whole class sections are going on a trip, students who are not going are required to be in school. These students will be assigned to follow another schedule. If a student has been a disciplinary problem, they may be excluded from the privilege of going on a trip. Only under unusual circumstances will money be refunded for a trip. In August, parents sign a permission slip for all of the regular field trips. If additional trips are scheduled, teachers will send information home to the parents along with a permission slip. This slip must be signed by the parents and returned to the teacher.

Generally, McClure field trips use bus transportation; however, private cars may be used occasionally for trips in the local area.

All students are expected to follow the directions of the bus driver and chaperones. Students are expected to dress appropriately for the specific event.
