Who can apply? 

Any University of Minnesota undergraduate student, in any year, from any college or major can apply for URSA. You do not need to need foreign language skills to apply

How do I apply?

Click the apply button below and submit the following:

1. Personal statement (between 250 - 500 words) explaining:

a. Your full name as header (first and last)  

b. Who you are. Tell us about yourself. 

c. Why URSA interests you 

d. Why Morocco interests you 

e. How this experience fits in your life or career goals

f. Three possible research topics (just a sentence or two for each)

g. Any foreign language skills, other coursework, or personal experiences applicable to your chosen host country. (language proficiency is an asset, not required)

2. Transcript (An unofficial copy from the registrar is acceptable. If you are a first semester student, you can send your high school transcript)

3. A graded writing sample that was submitted for another course (again put full name as header)

4. Please ensure all of your materials are submtted in PDF format

How will my application be assessed? 

We accept up to 18 students in each URSA cohort. Applications will be assessed holistically in terms of skills/potential/interest related to research, communication, maturity, language, cultural openness, and capacity for independent work

When are applications due?  

Applications for the URSA 2027 program are due by October 13, 2026
