TEACHER LICENSURE
The University of Minnesota-Duluth offers a wide range of rigorous teacher preparation programming approved by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing & Standards Board (PELSB). This programming is focused upon career preparation for professional educators which meet the requirements for a Minnesota teaching license.
LICENSURE SNAPSHOT
Upon graduation from the UMD Teacher Preparation Program, the teacher candidate will receive a licensure recommendation from the Accreditation, Licensure, and Field Experience (ALFE) Office. Completion of the teacher preparation program will meet requirements needed for MN Tier 3 licensure.
Tier 3 Licensure allows for full-time/part-time teaching aligned to your degree content area. Includes the capability to substitute teach in any subject/district for no more than 15 consecutive days and long term substitute teach aligned to your degree content area
After three years of teaching in Minnesota (without being placed on an improvement plan) Tier 3 teachers may apply for a Tier 4 license which may be renewed indefinitely every five years.
