UEA Membership

Stronger Together

How do I become a member?

Becoming a member is very easy and can be done online.  Signing up only takes a few moments and your membership is effective immediately. What are union dues in 2023/24?

Union dues are based on your FTE percentage and break down as follows:

Can I choose to still pay Fair Share fees after Janus?

No.  The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Janus case did away with Fair Share fees and Fair Share membership level.  In a post-Janus world you are either a member of the union or you are a nonmember. Members pay their dues and nonmembers benefit from the union without paying their fair share.

Where is the UEA office and when is it open?

The UEA Office is located at 27 BohH  The UEA office staffed part time and varies semester to semester.  During COVID, our UEA staff members is working from home and the best way to be in touch is through email.  uead@d.umn.edu

How do I cancel my membership?

Union membership may be canceled at any time, but union dues may only be canceled in the month of September.  You must cancel both, either at the same time in September or with two separate actions.

To cancel your union membership, you must send an e-mail stating your desire to end your membership to the UEA at uead@d.umn.edu, or send a signed, hard-copy letter to UEA-Duluth, Bohannon 27, 1207 Ordean Court, Duluth, MN 55812. You can cancel your membership at any time but will still be responsible for dues deductions until the end of the membership year, which is August 31st.

Membership dues can only be canceled in the month of September. Membership authorizes UEA, Education Minnesota, NEA and AFT to deduct dues from your paycheck. For most members, this authorization is automatically renewed from year to year, irrespective of your membership in the union, unless you revoke it by submitting a written notice to the UEA at uead@d.umn.edu during the thirty-day period that begins on September 1 and ends on September 30. Such revocation will take effect on September 1 of the year in which you submit the revocation.
