Undergraduate research assistants, who are invited to join the lab, typically sign up for 1 to 3 credit hours of PSY 3994 Directed Research. Lab membership requires completion of research ethics and data security training, mandatory attendance at the weekly lab meeting, and a commitment of at least 3 hours of research-related work each week for a minimum of 1 semester. Opportunities for mentorship on an independent research project as well as collaboration on projects presented at research conferences or submitted for publication are possible for students who have demonstrated reliability with lab tasks. If you are interested in joining the lab, please complete an application form and contact Dr. Reich to schedule an interview:
Students applying for the Master of Arts in Psychological Science (MAPS) program at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) who are interested in the Psychotherapy and Trauma Lab, are encouraged to state this interest in their personal statement along with why this lab would be a good fit. To date lab members have included Clinical Counseling Psychology masters students, though prospective and current Experimental Psychology students are also welcome. Clinical Counseling Psychology masters applicants to the masters program are also encouraged to specify whether they are interested in the "Plan B" or "Plan C" option.
Students interested in the "Plan B" thesis project should specify which line of research (psychotherapy or trauma) they would prefer. Mentored student projects must match the mission of the Psychotherapy and Trauma Lab.
Students interested in the "Plan C" options should specify what training experiences they are interested in related to the lab and explain how they see that research experience in the lab fitting into their clinical-counseling practice career goals.
