Undergraduate research assistants, who are invited to join the lab, typically sign up for 1 to 3 credit hours of PSY 3994 Directed Research. Lab membership requires completion of research ethics and data security training, mandatory attendance at the weekly lab meeting, and a commitment of at least 3 hours of research-related work each week for a minimum of 1 semester. Opportunities for mentorship on an independent research project as well as collaboration on projects presented at research conferences or submitted for publication are possible for students who have demonstrated reliability with lab tasks. If you are interested in joining the lab, please complete an application form and contact Dr. Reich to schedule an interview:
Students applying for the Master of Arts in Psychological Science (MAPS) program at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) who are interested in the Psychotherapy and Trauma Lab, are encouraged to state this interest in their personal statement along with why this lab would be a good fit. To date lab members have included Clinical Counseling Psychology masters students, though prospective and current Experimental Psychology students are also welcome. Clinical Counseling Psychology masters applicants interested in developing research skills and who aspire to go on to PhD training or research employment post graduation should apply to the Clinical Counseling Research Emphasis Track. Applicants interested in the Practice Emphasis track (which prepares students for licensure in MN) are not required to conduct research but might indicate Dr. Reich in their materials if interested in training trauma-focused therapies and/or they might specify an interest in Direct Research in this lab for elective credits.
