Molly J. Wick (she/her) is a creative nonfiction writer and interdisciplinary social-ecological scientist from Duluth, Minnesota. She writes about and studies the intersection of humans and nature and what it means to be a healthy human on this planet. Her essay “A Frayed Thread,” about how genetic and epigenetics can weave threads of fear but also love through generations, won 3rd place in the Hal Prize for creative nonfiction. She is currently working on a memoir about medical trauma, body grief, chronic illness, and what it means to be truly "healthy." Molly has a PhD in interdisciplinary water resource science from the University of Minnesota. She has published over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and reports on topics ranging from water quality to environmental justice. She’s a regular in online classes at the Loft Literary Center and writes in her sun-porch surrounded by dozens of lovingly-tended plants and her short, long dog Arlo snoring nearby.
Join This is Not Normal, a free newsletter and for people who want to talk about what well-being and health really mean in the context of healthism, ablism, patriarchy, and productivity culture that is America today. The newsletter will follow my memoir-writing journey and include essays and reflections about relevant reading and the craft of embodied writing, along with excerpts from my memoir in progress.
