The Department of Management Studies at UMD is committed to offering innovative programs, providing students with experiential learning opportunities, and facilitating faculty growth in their research and teaching initiatives.
Our majors include Business Analytics, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Management, and Management Information Systems. Students learn to conduct business professionally and ethically, lead others to accomplish group and organizational goals, think critically about and make effective decisions affecting organizational stakeholders, and address organizational needs with technical solutions.
Classes are taught by a majority of Ph.D. qualified faculty, most of whom maintain an active research agenda in the area they teach. Many of our faculty hold UofM system-level distinctions and campus awards in testament to their ongoing commitment to students and academic excellence.
Faculty provide more than just a robust classroom environment. They offer training and opportunities to build upon what is learned in the classroom and apply it in a real-life context.
Students have the opportunity to participate in planning the Entrepreneurship Conference and the Startup Cup Entrepreneurship Competition.
Students can join student clubs, gain internships, connect with mentors, work with local companies on projects, and conduct research with faculty.
Our department is highly collegial, with faculty frequently socializing outside of LSBE. Senior faculty are committed to mentoring new faculty as they settle into their teaching, research, and service roles at the University.
