Number Theory and Combinatorics in Duluth: 

Honoring Joe Gallian and 45 years of the Duluth REU


Number theory and Combinatorics in Duluth will take place July 31-August 4  on the campus of University of Minnesota Duluth.  Most talks will be in Bohannon 90 on the UMD campus (see schedule for details). This conference is being held in cooperation with the Association for Women in Mathematics.

Registration: Registration has closed.

Travel Information: Duluth is serviced by Duluth International Airport which has service to MSP (Minneapolis St Paul) and ORD (O'Hare) with United and Delta Airlines. There may be some flights to Fort Meyers and Phoenix through Sun Country Airlines too. If you're traveling by car, Duluth is the northern terminus of I35.  There are shuttle buses from MSP to Duluth which operates several times daily with drop off locations in Duluth including at UMD. Shuttle options include Landline, Groome, and Jefferson.

It is recommended that you book taxi service to and from the airport in advance. Some options, in addition to Uber are SK Taxi (218)221-1604 and Allied Taxi (218)722-3311. If you are arriving on a late flight this is especially recommended. 


Accommodation Information: There are no hotels that are an easy walk to campus. If you are looking on a map, note that UMD's campus is up the hill from the lakeshore. Here are some hotels that are close to restaurants and pubs: Fitger's Inn, Hampton Inn Canal Park, the Inn on Lake Superior, the Suites Hotel at Waterfront Plaza, Pier B Resort, South Pier Inn, Holiday Inn and Suites Downtown, Radison Hotel Duluth - Harborview. There are more affordable options which are farther away: Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Duluth by the Mall, AmericInn by Wyndham Duluth, Tru by Hilton Duluth Mall Area. You may find bnb's/ airbnb's that are closer to campus. Salyard's Mansion is walkable to UMD's campus.

If you are staying at the Holiday Inn Downtown please contact them prior to departing for airport shuttle reservations.


UMD accommodations:

Front Desk:  Lake Superior Hall lobby, 513 Niagara Court, Duluth MN 55812. The front desk is normally staffed from 8am - 10pm and will be open until 2am on the night of Sunday July 30 (morning of Monday July 31) and the night of Monday July 31 (morning of Tuesday August 1). Location: Goldfine Apartments and dorm rooms at Griggs PQ residence hall.  Click on the embedded links for virtual tours of the Goldfine Apartments and the Griggs PQ residence halls. 

Venue: The conference will be held in Bohannon Hall on the UMD campus.  Some talks are in SCC 120 and MWAH 195 see the schedule. Here is a campus map.

Parking Information: During the summer all maroon, white, and green lots plus pay lot G are free of charge. (Gold lots, metered parking and park Duluth spaces are not free.) All buildings on campus can be accessed through inside hallways, please look for posted maps! Lots L-1, L-2, L-3, J-3, and V-2 are close to the UMD accommodations and lot B is close to the lecture halls. Here is a color coded parking map.

Bus Information: Some hotels have shuttle service to the UMD campus. If you wish to take advantage of that, inquire at check-in. Most hotels are located downtown or in the Canal Park area of town. The Duluth transit company has bus routes connecting this area of town to the UMD campus.  Here is a map of the bus routes. Standard fare is $1.50 (exact change).
