Leadership Positions
Section Chair
The Section Chair is responsible for official business, supports the section leadership team, and leads business meetings, and section initiatives. This position has a 3-year term, and faculty are given preference over graduate students and postdocs. Specific tasks include:
Participating in BSA Council at conference,
Leading Section Business Meeting,
Writing annual report and submitting official business to BSA leadership,
Overseeing new initiatives that may include other section leaders and/or members,
Supporting and helping leadership meet deadlines and required planning for the annual meeting.
Program Chair
The Program Chair is responsible for organizing the oral and poster sessions and selecting moderators for oral sessions, along with organizing the business meeting. This position has a 3-year term, and faculty are given preference over graduate students and postdocs. Specific tasks include:
Organizing the oral session for the conference,
Arranging the moderators for sessions,
Planning the business meeting including food,
Participating in discussions about and aids in execution of section initiatives,
Communicating with Social Media Coordinator about conference events.
Communicating with Membership Chair about conference events.
Membership Chair
The Membership Chair is responsible for the logistics of student awards (including finding judges at the annual meeting) along with helping with the newsletter and other membership business. This position has a 3-year term, and faculty are given preference over graduate students and postdocs. Specific tasks include:
Organizing judges for student awards during the conference,
Working with Chair to complete paperwork associated with awards,
Reaching out to the award winners and working with social media coordinator to publicize winners,
Helping with newsletters and other membership business.
Communicating with the Program Chair about conference events.
Treasurer
The Treasurer manages the Section budget, communicates with BSA about financial business, and signs/manages award payment and reimbursement. This position has a 3-year term, and faculty are given preference over graduate students and postdocs.
Other Positions
Social Media Coordinator
The Social Media Coordinator creates content and manages our social media accounts on instagram and bluesky. They work with the leadership team to generate ideas for content and campaigns. This position can be filled by scientists of any rank. It has a 1-year term.
