The school provides equitable access to technology devices to each student to facilitate in-class and remote instruction.
Each class continue to utilize Google Classroom to facilitate instruction while in school/remote/blended settings, which provides multiple ways for students to participate in learning and demonstrate mastery of Learning Standards.
During instruction, teachers and staff are expected to utilize consistent methods of communication, in multiple modalities (recorded video, recorded audio, and written translation) which will be shared/sent to students
To prevent stress due to technology issues, the school provides support, equitable access to technology and flexibility to the nature of assignments and deadlines.
Teachers are expected to adapt to students needs when designing remote/blended/online learning experiences. The school provides alternative learning activities that do not require too much use of new and unfamiliar technology applications.
The school Instructional Technology Team provides support to students, staff and teachers throughout in-person/remote/blended instruction..

The health, safety, and well-being of students and staff are central to Mid-Manhattan Adult Learning Center School 5 (MMALC School 5). The school implements the following practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and maintain the health and safety of the school community.
Before entering the school building for the first time, a COVID test result will be required for staff and students.

The school consistently teaches COVID 19 protocols following the CDC guidelines throughout the school year. It provides signage on conspicuous places for all students and staff to see. It continuously reteaches and reminds students and teachers using the CDC guidance on when and how to wash your hands, covering your nose and mouth with an acceptable face covering when unable to maintain social distance, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, reporting symptoms of or exposure to COVID-19 and properly storing, cleaning, and discarding Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Masks
Students, teachers and staff members must wear Masks at all times while they are within the school premises. Visitors, contractors, and vendors are required to wear masks before allowing them to enter the building including the required screening procedures.
Hand Hygiene
Students and staff are expected to practice Hand Hygiene at all times. The simplest way to prevent transmission of any disease is through hand washing. Wash hands thoroughly before and after eating, after using the bathroom, if exposed to body fluids (like saliva or a sneeze), and at other times necessary throughout the day.
The school provides and maintain hand hygiene stations around the school, as follows:
For hand washing: soap, running warm water, and disposable paper towels
For hand sanitizing: an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol for areas where hand washing facilities may not be available or practical
Hand sanitizers are available throughout common areas. They are placed in convenient locations, within the building, classroom, cafeteria, entrances and exits. Touch-free hand sanitizer dispensers are installed in each classroom and where possible.
Respiratory Hygiene
The COVID-19 virus spreads from person to person in droplets produced by coughs or sneezes. Therefore, it is important that students and staff cover their mouths or noses with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of the tissue appropriately
Sanitation and Supplies
The school building and other physical objects in close proximity or contact with students, teachers and staff are sanitized regularly.
Receptacles are placed around the school for disposal of soiled items, including paper towels and PPE
Signage are placed near hand sanitizers indicating visibly soiled hands should be washed with soap and water; and if students or staff are unable to use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, they must be permitted to wash their hands with soap and water
A supply of tissues and no touch/floor pedal trash cans are available in each room when feasible. If no tissue is available, using the inside of the elbow (or shirtsleeve) to cover the mouth or nose is preferable to using the hands. Always perform hand hygiene after sneezing, coughing, and handling dirty tissues or other soiled materials.
Social Distancing
MMALC School 5 ensures that appropriate social distancing is maintained between individuals while in school facilities and on school grounds, inclusive of students and staff, unless safety or the core activity (e.g., instruction, moving equipment, traveling in common areas) requires a shorter distance.
The maximum number of students in a classroom per day is nine (9) and follow alternating schedules. The provision of related services is given to an individual instead of in a group setting. Classroom seating will be organized facing the same direction and maintaining a 6 feet distance among students’ and teachers’ desks.
The school reduces school movement by keeping students within their assigned classroom to the extent possible. The school enacts measures to prevent intermingling across classes, to the greatest extent
The school sees to it that all rooms will have adequate ventilation through natural means by opening the windows or through exhaust fans. During inclement weather, the filter of the Air Condition system will be changed regularly.
MMALC School 5 will use a daily health screening procedure for students and staff reporting to school. If you feel sick, STAY AT HOME.

Health Checks and Screening
A daily mandatory health screenings is implemented including temperature checks, of students, staff and, where applicable,. Contractors, vendors, and visitors are not exempted from the daily mandatory health screening in order to identify any individuals who may have COVID-19 or who may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus.
Screening for all students, staff, and where practicable, visitors, contractors, and vendors, must be completed before entering the school building, either going to the Health Screening Website or using a questionnaire that determines whether the individual has:
knowingly been in close or proximate contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 or who has or had symptoms of COVID-19;
tested positive through a diagnostic test for COVID-19 in the past 14 days;
experienced any symptoms of COVID-19, including a temperature of 100.0°F or greater, in the past 14 days; and/or
has traveled internationally or from a state with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 per the New York State Travel Advisory in the past 14 days
Temperature checks are conducted per U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or DOH guidelines. Specifically, all individuals must have their temperature checked each day ideally, first at home, prior to departing to school, and again prior to entering any school facility. If an individual presents a temperature of 100.0°F or greater, the individual must be denied entry into the facility, or sent directly to a dedicated area (overflow room) prior to being picked up or otherwise sent home.
Students, teachers and staff members are provided resources to educate them regarding the careful observation of symptoms of COVID-19 and health screening that must be conducted each morning before coming to school.
Students, teachers and school staff are instructed that any student or staff member with a temperature of 100.0°F or greater and/or symptoms of possible COVID-19 virus infection should not be present in school.
The school is prohibited from keeping records of student, staff, and visitor health data (e.g., the specific temperature data of an individual), but will maintain records that confirm individuals were screened and the result of such screening (e.g., pass/fail, cleared/not cleared)
Remote screening are coordinated for the students and staff who were not admitted from the temperature screening, to identify individuals who should not go to school and should be referred to their health care provider for further evaluation and COVID-19 testing
On-site screening (temperature checks) are conducted at the school entrance and markers will be placed on the ground to indicate appropriate social distancing in order to prevent individuals from intermingling in close or proximate contact with each other prior to completion of the screening.
The school regularly refers to CDC guidance on “Symptoms of Coronavirus” for the most up to date information on symptoms associated with COVID-19
In-Person Screening
MMALC School 5 ensures that any personnel performing in-person screening activities, including temperature checks, are appropriately protected from exposure to potentially infectious individuals entering the facilities. Personnel performing screening activities will be trained by the school-identified individuals (building nurse) who are familiar with CDC, DOH, and OSHA protocols
Screeners are provided with PPE, which includes at a minimum, an acceptable face covering or mask, gloves, a gown, and/or a face shield and must wear them.
When conducting screening. non-contact thermometers are used and cleaned with alcohol wipes between each use while the screener is protected with PPE and a physical barrier.
The school takes steps to ensure that any process has multiple avenues of completion and is not used as a basis to exclude students from school. Students who may require screening to be completed at school must be treated in a confidential manner and must have the screening completed as quickly as possible to minimize time away from class.
