Water rescue is any type of rescue that has to happen around still (lakes) or moving (rivers) water. Water can be a fun but highly dangerous environment, and our members have to pass a specialized course to be able to work in these environments.  We scan the area looking for specific hazards like sweepers and strainers, even logs or other items floating around can turn to a dangerous hazard quickly. Knowing how to protect ourselves and other in these dynamic situation, can also cause many in the moment decisions. Water is relentless and doesn't stop for anyone, preparing yourself for those situations is key.

Any mode of transport on water including inflatable floaties are considered water vessels? So when your floating down the river it is required to have a boating emergency kit onboard and a life vest for each person? You don't have to have them on but should be available.

Ice rescue

Is very similar to water rescue and present the same hazards plus more. Knowing how to read the ice conditions and identify entrapment possibilities is a huge factor. Have the right gear to keep you safe and prevent hypothermia is a must when doing things around ice and water.
