Contributions to School Improvement

2x CVUHSD ELA SBAC Trophy Win!

Since my tenure as Literacy Instructional Coach at Leuzinger High School, our ELA department has claimed the highest SBAC scores and the greatest percentage of growth in the district. Our data-driven collaboration, responsive department initiatives, and instructional coaching sessions have resulted in exponential success.

Leuzinger Reading Campaign

In response to district and site data, work was done in tandem with Leuzinger High School's ELA Department to launch a literacy campaign that focuses on reading outside of academics. This ongoing campaign featured virtual workshops hosted by the Los Angeles County Public library as well as the purchase and assembly of classroom libraries and independent reading resources for students.

As a support for the program, collaborations with instructional coaches over other departments and presentations to faculty and staff provided data sharing and education on Lexile reporting to assist literacy interventions school-wide.

Leuzinger High School PLO Series

In response to WASC recommendations, this PLO series was developed for Leuzinger teachers and facilitated in collaboration with Leuzinger High School's Instructional Support Team. This year-long series focused on Costa and Garmston's concept of Holonomy and Cognitive Coaching foundations for the intended improvement of teacher effectiveness and professional growth. The central concepts of Holonomy also served as an extension of Leuzinger's five instructional focuses school-wide.

The event included a professional DJ, hors d'oeuvres, custom mocktails, team-building activities, and staff fluff awards. This event was hosted three years in a row and received very positive feedback. To the dismay of the faculty, the event was later discontinued due to master schedule and budget constraints.

Link Krew Freshman Orientation and Parent Outreach

Lawndale's Link Krew Leadership program is an internationally recognized program developed by The Boomerang Project. Each year 130-150 stuent leaders were selected by a steady stream of approximately 600 applicants. Students went through a rigorous training summer session and continued training in the UC approved Link Krew course throughout the school year. Lawndale's Link Krew Program worked in conjunction with administration each year to host an interactive and detailed orientation for incoming freshmen and their parents. Leaders then followed their assigned group of freshmen throughout the year to provide support. Support included academic and social interventions. Many Link Leaders continue their relationships with freshmen today.
