1. Be engaged in academic work in a productive way
CVUHSD Requirement
Students will demonstrate productive academic work using their cumulative GPA - 2.0 or higher
2. Demonstrate a competent understanding of United States and California constitutions; functions and governance of local governments; tribal government structures and organizations; the role of the citizen in a constitutional democracy; and democratic principles, concepts, and processes
CVUHSD Requirement:
10th Grade World History (letter grade of A, B, or C)
11th Grade United States History (letter grade of A, B, or C)
Completion of Canvas course on the California Constitution
Completion of Canvas course on tribal governments
3. The Student Must: Participate in one or more informed civic engagement project(s) that address real-world problems and require students to identify and inquire into civic needs or problems, consider varied responses, take action, and reflect on efforts.
CVUHSD Requirement:
Student project of community engagement based on inquiry, investigation, community outreach, and informed action. Students will keep a log of their action steps and community involvement as part of their submission process.
4. The Student Must: Demonstrate civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions through self- reflection
CVUHSD Requirement:
Written reflection in which students discuss the project with an emphasis on growth and learning
Presentation at a school site committee comprised of teachers and administrators
5. The Student Must: Exhibit character traits that reflect civic-mindedness and a commitment to positively impact the classroom, school, community and/or society.
CVUHSD Requirement:
Teacher recommendation
Review of school citizenship grades and behavior
Verification of 2.0 GPA and completion of H/SS classes with a “C” or better
