Roles & Expectations
Roles, expectations, and compensation information for all development team members can be found below.
Editor
Qualifications: Current WTCS faculty or deans in primary/related discipline; Completion of OER 101, preferred
Compensation: Stipend, $60/hour, estimated 10-40 hours per chapter/competency
Credit: Listed as editor on front cover and in preface section of completed textbook
Serves as the editor and lead author of the assigned textbook.
Ensures the textbook is “one voice” with consistent structure and flow and use of clear language.
Recruits faculty workgroup members, contributors, developers, and peer-reviewers to participate in the textbook development.
Leads and coordinates WTCS workgroup and advisory committee meetings regarding book development and feedback.
Incorporates revisions based on faculty workgroup, peer-reviewer, and proofreader feedback.
Collaborates with the librarian for copyright guidance and to curate, attribute, and cite resources.
Collaborates with the instructional designer to develop learning activities, digital textbook design, and any applicable course shells.
Communicates textbook information to relevant organizations, state workgroups, committees, faculty, industry partners, etc.
Pilots resource for classroom use; seek student feedback.
Functional guidance and support provided by WisTech Open Project Director.
Developing Author
Qualifications: Current WTCS faculty or deans in primary/related discipline or industry partner; Completion of OER 101, preferred
Compensation: Stipend, $60/hour, estimated 10-20 hours per chapter
Credit: Listed as developing author in preface section of completed textbook
Serves as an author for assigned sections, chapters, or competencies of the textbook.
Remixes existing OER content and writes additional content as necessary, based on WTCS course competencies and performance criteria.
Functional guidance and support provided by editors.
Faculty Workgroup Member
Qualifications: Current WTCS faculty or deans in primary/related discipline or industry partner; Completion of OER 101, preferred
Compensation: Stipend, $60/hour, estimated 2-4 hours per competency
Credit: Listed as contributor in preface section of completed textbook
Attends semi-annual workgroup meetings
Provides advisory support and guidance to assigned textbook chapters
Functional guidance and support provided by editors.
Advisory Committee Member
Qualifications: Current WTCS faculty or deans in primary/related discipline or industry partner in a program advisory committee
Compensation: None; may participate as developer or peer-reviewer
Credit: Listed as contributor in preface section of completed textbook
Attends semi-annual advisory committee meetings
Provides input for overall assigned textbook/project
Functional guidance and support provided by editors.
Peer Reviewer
Qualifications: Current faculty in primary/related discipline or industry partner; Completion of OER 101, preferred
Compensation: Stipend, $60/hour, estimated 1-4 hours per chapter
Credit: Listed as peer-reviewer in preface section of completed textbook
Provides feedback on each textbook using a rubric in a timely manner
Provides specific comments and suggestions within the book using a private Hypothes.is group or equivalent.
Functional guidance and support provided by editors.
Compensation
Compensation for all development team work is $60/hour. For more details visit the respective roles outlined above.
Additional projects may be funded via a pre-determined flat rate, based on available funding and type of work.
