A comprehensive look at marketing concepts and functions. Concepts include marketing mix, marketing decision-making, segmentation, promotion, research, product development, distribution, and logistics. Marketing Principles introduces modern marketing practices, studies the essential role played by marketing in society, as well as techniques used for various industries.Β

Explore the most popular and powerful social media platforms to complement and enhance traditional marketing. Students learn about platforms and their purposes, how to reach audiences, what/when/how to post, responding to crises, and maintenance techniques for platforms. The final project is creating a digital marketing plan for a fake business based on each studentβs own hobbies and interests.Β

Develop communication skills in design, illustration, print, and digital media using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Curriculum focuses on key skills in each of the three programs, following the design process, applying skills to marketing-related projects, and preparing files for print and digital. The final project is a design suite including a logo, business card, letterhead, envelope, and brochure.Β

Using knowledge from previous coursework, students individually execute a 12-week digital media campaign for a fictitious business using a variety of popular social media platforms and digital outlets. Students learn strategies for posting content, days, times, acceptable attachments, citations, and best practices for paid digital advertising from area professionals. The final project is students presenting their campaign to industry professionals.Β

Identify measurement, tracking, and analytic tools used to prove ROI and ROE of digital presence. Using captured data, students explore the most effective strategies for evaluating consumer insights and monitoring feeds to find out what followers are saying about a brand. The curriculum includes Google Analytics Basic, Google Ads Measurement, and SEMrush certifications.Β

Self-awareness activities help students explore their unique characteristics and develop a personal brand they gain confidence promoting. Students create customized cover letters, resumes, career portfolios, video resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and personal websites. In addition, the course walks students through the job-seeking process, which concludes with mock interviews. Networking and community service activities allow students to make connections in the community. Must be fourth semester standing.Β

Businesses today increasingly turn to social media to build and promote their brands, share news and information, and engage with their audiences. This course teaches how to productively use these platforms specifically for business purposes. Students learn about ethics/laws/compliance, inbound communications, posting, and the intricacies of primary social media platforms from a business perspective. The focus is on understanding the platforms and professionally writing content specific to the platform to reach the target audience.Β

This course focuses on writing strategies and methods of content creation for online environments. We learn about writing in and for digital environments clearly, precisely, accurately, personally, and for specific audiences and purposes. Areas of digital content, including how to make articles easier to understand for web users, how to use persuasive language, how to integrate images with text, and SEO certification are included. The final project allows students to publish digital content on a well-known internet media company.Β Β

Graduation is just around the corner, so it's time to prepare to (re)enter the workforce. Self-awareness activities help students explore their unique characteristics and develop a personal brand. Students create customized cover letters, a resume, a digital and physical career portfolio, and a LinkedIn profile. In addition, the course walks students through the job-seeking process, which concludes with mock interviews. Must be fourth-semester standing.
