ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The University, through the College of Economics, Management, and Development Studies (CEMDS), offers the Bachelor of Science in Development Management (BSDM) program with the primary objective of producing graduates equipped with knowledge and competencies in development, research, policy-making, and professional practice in national and multilateral institutions, non-governmental organizations, as well as in the private and business sectors. The BSDM program has two major fields: the Training Program Management (TPRM) and the Rural Development Management (RUDM). By providing a specialized field, it will better prepare students for diverse roles in various local and international institutions.
Since its inception, the program has undergone several revisions to maintain its relevance and responsiveness to the evolving demands of the field. Initially approved in 1994 through BOR Resolution No. 56, the first revision came in 1996 with the enrichment of the program objectives under BOR Resolution No. 60, s. 1996. A subsequent revision was implemented in 2002, as approved through BOR Resolution No. 11, s. 2002. The most recent major enrichment before the current revision was in 2004, when the program was enhanced with the inclusion of the Certificate of Information System Management (CISM) through BOR Resolution No. 19, s. 2004. In addition, the program was granted Government Recognition No. 103, series of 2016, by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and classified under the CHED Program and Discipline Code for Business Administration and related fields.
In response to CHED Memorandum Order No. 36, s. 2017, the BSDM curriculum underwent a thorough review and revision. The process began with the Department Curriculum Review held on July 4, 2017, which was attended by faculty members and students of the Department of Development Studies. This was followed by the College Curriculum Review on January 18, 2018, with participation from the CEMDS Academic Council and core faculty members. Subsequently, a presentation and review session with both external and internal stakeholders was conducted on February 21, 2018, attended by selected students, faculty members, BS Development alumni, and other key stakeholders. The revised BSDM curriculum was then presented to and approved by the CEMDS Academic Council on March 1, 2018, through College Resolution No. 3. Finally, the proposed revision was reviewed and approved by the University Academic Council of Deans (AA-COD) on April 24, 2018, through AA-COD Resolution No. 17, s. 2018.
Another Department Curriculum Review was conducted on July 13–14, 2022, with the active participation of faculty members, students, and other stakeholders of the Department of Development Studies. Most recently, the program achieved another significant milestone when it was granted a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) on July 24, 2025, through CEB Resolution No. 559-2025, affirming that the BSDM program fully meets the standards and requirements set by CHED.
