Clover House is a 5th & 6th Grade team at
The red clover (Trifolium pratense) is the state flower of Vermont. You may recognize it from farm fields across the state by it's purple flower head. The flower head is not just a single flower, but dozens of small flowers (like a sunflower!).
It is a member of the bean family (Fabaceae), which means it adds nitrogen to the soil - one of the essential nutrients all plants need (in science, we say it is "nitrogen-fixing"). It is also a very nourishing part of a cow's diet!
We see these qualities of the red clover as emblematic of our a team: a group of learners and teachers unified in our common mission (flower head) that strives to learn from and give back to our community (nitrogen-fixing).
The team consists of four subject area classroom educators and a Special Educator that serves both grade levels. We are supported by an in-house para-educator and teaching assistant, as well. Teachers have specialized in their content areas allowing them to deliver content specific expertise, while still seeing the value of integration across the content areas.
The teaching configuration for the 2023-2024 school year is as follows:
Special Education - Coordinated and delivered by our Special Educator, Courtney Sherman
Humanities - Integrated English/Literacy & Social Studies content taught in grade-level groups. Teachers: Aron Merrill (5th grade) and Josh Roof (6th grade).
Math - Taught by grade level: two 5th grade groups and two 6th grade groups. Teacher: Mady Corkum
Science - Looping two-year curriculum taught in grade-level groups. Teacher: S'ra DeSantis
We are lucky to have the co-teaching model as part of the opportunities we offer students. Our special educator and math and reading interventionists are in many classes allowing for the kind of differentiation that moves all students forward.
