*High Frequency Words
High frequency words are words that come up the most often in early reading and play a major role in a child's oral reading fluency. Some of these words are phonetic, meaning you can sound them out, but many are irregularly spelled and what we refer to as "heart words" (words where some of the parts you just need to know "by heart"). Each grade level has a certain set of words in which they are working to master throughout the entire year (not all at once!). Please see the links below for the set of words for each grade at ABS. These words are great to practice at home; for ideas on high frequency/sight word games, click here!
The Home-School Compact is an agreement of expectations between the teachers, the parents/guardians, and the students. It focuses on what needs to be done between all three parties so that the student can reach grade-level standards.
