SCS Library

Welcome!

The SCS Library is open to all preK-8 students and faculty/staff during school hours. We are available to support students in finding books that meet their personal and educational needs.

Students in grades K-4 attend weekly library classes. PreK students visit the library monthly for a read aloud and book checkout. Middle school students are welcome during school hours and access the library as needed.

We believe it is essential that all students find books that reflect their interests, values, identity, and educational needs. As with all libraries but particularly in a PreK-8 library, not all books are a good fit for all readers. While we strive to guide students toward books that are in line with their developmental stage, we also strongly believe that censoring book choices is not our role. Please discuss your students' book choices with them if you have a concern.

Please note that we will no longer be requiring parent/guardian permission for young adult books. We will let students know about content and support them to make decisions on their own that consider their own interests and needs as well as expectations at home. This shift will help empower students to make their own independent and thoughtful decisions about what books they are choosing to select from the library, and we are always happy to help support and guide students along the way.

Lost or Damaged Books

If a book has been lost or damaged, we ask that you take responsibility for that item. You may pay for the book outright, donate a gently used book from your home, or volunteer for an hour in the library. Please pick the option that is the best fit for your family. If you are choosing to pay for the book, hardcover books are $15 and paperback books are $5.
