CVSD provides a variety of support services for eligible students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our Teacher for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (TODHH) works across the CVSD school community to provide consultation and itinerant services for identified students. In addition, our TODHH works with outside referral agencies to ensure timely identification of students who may be eligible to receive accommodations or services. Services can include:
Ongoing training and support for teachers and staff around student specific hearing loss and equipment needs in the classrooms (in-person and remote).
Management of hearing assistive technology across the district (e.g., personal FM/DM systems; classroom auditory distribution systems).
Collaboration with outside service providers (e.g. ASL/sign support instructors, audiologists, Deaf mentors).
Collaboration with IEP and 504 special educators around case management, accommodations, and goals for students with hearing loss.
Collaboration with Communication Specialists/Facilitators providing specialized support to students who require more intensive services in their educational placement.
Classroom observations with follow-up recommendations (e.g. recommendations to improve the acoustic environment, instructional strategies, access to communication across different modalities, etc).
Assessments to provide evidence-based support in the classrooms.
Direct services as defined in an Individual Education Plan (IEP) or 504 for students around a specific area of need (e.g. self-advocacy related to their hearing).
