Dear Families,
Allen Brook School is participating in a voluntary statewide program called Reading is an Investment. Managed by the Vermont State Treasurer’s Office, the goal of the program is to teach elementary-aged children personal finance concepts.
Participating schools are sent three new books each school year that highlight a specific personal finance theme. During library times, all K-grade 2 students will hear these books read-aloud. Mrs. Clopton will also record these books to share online with our VLA students and families.

Through lessons and activities in our school library and through personal reading, our students are introduced to basic financial topics.
There are two parts to the program --- personal reading and school instructional activities. We will send home a reading log for families to complete if they would like to. Completed logs need to be mailed to the VT State Treasurer’s Office before May 1, 2021. All participating students will be entered into a statewide drawing for a $250 college savings plan account. If your child wins one of the college savings plans, the school will be contacted and your child’s classroom teacher will notify you. As a winner, you will have the option to accept or decline the savings plan.
Please feel free to contact me with questions and/or visit www.MoneyEd.Vermont.gov for a copy of the money reading list.
