Welcome to Sisters In STEM

What is Our MMV?

Motive

Sisters in STEM (SiS) wants to create a support system for all women of all backgrounds to create equal footing for those who want to pursue STEM.

Empowering young women is a principal of SiS to develop their confidence in high school and middle school. We want to give them guidance to set them up for achievement. and grow our community of passionate female students.

Confidence builds confidence. It is essential to not fear asking questions because questions are essential for growth!

Mission

Middle school students will have an understanding of STEM pathways such as learning to develop life skills like critical thinking with hands-on activities and becoming prepared for high school. This means our organizations will have mentors at the ready.

As SiS, we plan to bridge gap between middle school and high school. Our goal is to provide registration assistance for students and connect them with the STEM classes at Central Valley Highschool.

Our club Sisters In STEM includes activities such as guest speakers and organized tutoring groups in collaboration with National Honors Society.  Not only that,  SiS will be planning activities with local organizations like Spark Central and Spokane STEM to give students a boost of experience!

Encouraging the passion for STEM will go beyond high school from resources offered by upperclassmen, such as applying and finding scholarships and understanding the ever-growing job market.

Vision

Our program at the middle school will provide 2 sessions at both North Pines and Evergreen. After the end of both sessions, middle school students will fill out an interest form that connects to a summer event they can participate in.

To maintain the connection between SiS and the middle school students, we have a Remind and Google Classroom to list resources for upcoming events.

We plan to have a sustainable structure for Sisters in STEM at both school levels and our plan is replicable for middle school and high school. Then, our hope is the eventual expansion to other schools 2 to 3 years out.

Mentorship provides an opportunity for collaboration, communication, leadership, and the development of intrinsic motivation. These sessions help students make connections to a career path or future interest using hands-on experience. We find the importance of real-world connection which will create a long-term impact on a person's STEM journey. This means that middle school students have an honorary role in our organization and they will automatically be a member when transitioning to high school.

SiS offers high school students the opportunity to be familiarized with different STEM pathways. To help us with our mission, SiS will broaden our roots with an national organization by having our core leaders act as ambassadors for our chapter.
