Math Information

August 19, 2020

This year many things will be changing due to following the state guidelines. One quick communication tool that I will be using is the Remind app. I will be using the Remind app for quick messages and reminders. It’s very similar to text messaging. I will also be utilizing Google Classroom and my School Website to post homework and test assignments. Please make sure to use your Google login information. I plan on using Google Classroom more this year so your child gets more familiar with this online tool. If you are able to, please use these resources to stay up to date on your child's assignments.

This year in math your child's grade will be made up of quizzes, tests, multiplication fact tests, exit slips, homework, and projects. They will be receiving a math toolkit to keep at home. This kit will be used for different topics throughout the school year. PLEASE KEEP IT IN A SAFE PLACE!! They will also be receiving multiplication flash cards shortly to practice regularly at home. This is very important because we will be working on division and fractions where they will need to know these facts. Your child will not have a math book this year to bring home but we will be using a math journal to keep notes and examples in. They will also be assigned some type of math homework on a regular basis.

We will be spending the first month of school reviewing 3rd grade topics and then will start covering these 4th grade math topics throughout the school year:

Place value; Solving word problems/equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; Factors and Multiplies; Patterns; Finding equal fractions; Ordering fractions; Adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers; Multiplying fractions; Relating decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals; Time; Converting measurements; Finding area and perimeter; Graphing data; Drawing lines and angles; Measuring angles; Classifying two-dimensional figures; and Lines of Symmetry.
