For each level of school, the Texas Library Association picks books that are deserving of awards. At the junior high level, these books are called The Lone Star List. A new list is created each year.

In order to practice their dictionary skills, students can participate in this contest. If they find the word in under a minute, they earn a prize.

To help reinforce their knowledge of figurative language, students had the opportunity to determine what type was being used in several different examples. Some students even got their name on the Wall of Flame!
