The mission of the Channelview ISD Science Department is to provide our students with the skills necessary to generate and evaluate scientific evidence and explanations of phenomena occurring in the natural world. In addition, our students will be prepared to explore pathways to success in STEM careers.
Secondary Science Coordinator
Mrs. Kari Ollis is a passionate advocate for the integration of science across all content areas, firmly believing in the power of STEM education to shape the future's inventors and explorers. With a career that began as a corporate trainer in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) within the oil and gas industry, Mrs. Ollis brings a wealth of experience and dedication to education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies from Ashford University while balancing the demands of work and family life.
Since 2017, Mrs. Ollis has been a dedicated educator in Channelview, teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Her commitment to improving science education led her to serve as the Science Instructional Coach at De Zavala Elementary for the past two years, where she has played a pivotal role in enhancing instructional strategies and student outcomes.

High School Instructional Support Teacher
Mrs. Kirstie Weiss graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Wildlife Management and received her Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University. Mrs. Weiss began her teaching career at Robert Turner High School in Pearland in 2013, and moved to Channelview High School in 2016. She has taught across many sciences, including Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, Advanced Placement Environmental Science and Biology, and OnRamps Biology. Mrs. Weiss accepted the Channelview District Science Curriculum Specialist position in 2021. In 2024, she transitioned into the position of Instructional Support Teacher at Channelview High School. She is passionate about teaching and learning science!

Junior High Instructional Support Teacher
A childhood rooted in science (Magic School Bus, Space Camp at NASA, Bill Nye, and farm/ranch management) lead Audrey Burkhart to pursue a career in teaching science once returning to America from teaching overseas. This is her ninth year in Channelview ISD. Audrey is excited about what the future has to offer.
