The New Oxford Junior Colonials (NOJC) Recreational Competition Program established in 2022 under the New Oxford Cheerleading Boosters, provides young athletes in grades 3rd through 8th the opportunity to train and compete in the exciting world of competitive cheerleading. Designed as a feeder program for the New Oxford Varsity Competition squad, NOJC helps athletes develop the skills, confidence, and teamwork necessary for long-term success in the sport.
NOJC consists of two teams, allowing athletes to train and compete with peers at their skill and age level:
Team Crimson – Placement for 3rd-5th graders, introducing them to the fundamentals of competitive cheerleading.
Team Steele – Placement for 6th-8th graders, providing a more advanced level of training to prepare athletes for high school competition.
What to Expect
Being part of a youth & junior recreational competition team requires commitment, hard work, dedication, and drive. Athletes will focus on stunting, tumbling, jumps, choreography, and overall performance skills to prepare them for the competitive cheerleading environment. Tumbling is a major component, as it plays a crucial role in an athlete’s growth and progression in the sport.
Coaching & Mentorship
NOJC is led by the New Oxford Cheerleading Coaches, dedicated volunteer coaches and New Oxford Varsity Cheerleaders, who bring their passion and experience to the program. These mentors help younger athletes build strong fundamentals while fostering sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork in a positive and encouraging environment.
How to Join
NOJC welcomes athletes of all experience levels who are ready to put in the effort to improve their skills and compete. Tryouts and registration details are announced annually, and practices are held throughout the season leading up to competitions. Season tryout information for the 2025-2026 season will be shared in April of 2025.
