We're so glad you're here! This 4-week course invites you to critically examine the various ways our culture affects our approach to teaching and learning, impacting our students in ways that may unintentionally increase barriers to their success. Although this course is tailored for the online environment, please know that these principles and practices apply to face-to-face, hybrid, and web-enhanced learning environments as well.
Though the topics may be challenging for some of us, we hope you will see the value of stretching yourself and engaging in difficult conversations. Our hope is that this course will be transformative for you and prepare to apply equity-minded principles to all aspects of your teaching.
This course provides community college instructional faculty with an introduction to Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning (CRTL) pedagogy in the online learning environment. Utilizing an equity framework, the course provides strategies and recommendations for embedding CRTL and other high-impact practices in course design and online classroom practices.
Equity and CRTL in the Online Learning Environment is designed to support faculty in reducing equity and opportunity gaps and improving student success outcomes by creating equity-minded online classrooms that are welcoming, supportive, student-centered.
There is no textbook. However, we encourage you to find inspiration in the literature we cite! Throughout the course, we will recommend resources to help build your own library. If we mention a great book you can add to your library, a "Stocking Your Library icon" will be found at the bottom of that page.
