Student should start here:

¡Hola! Yo soy Profe Canela. This will be my 5th year teaching Spanish at Castro Valley High, but I have been teaching since I was my students' age! My first high school job was at a child development center, where I first started lesson planning for 3 year olds.
As a junior in high school (I was a San Leandro High Pirate growing up...arrrg!!), I studied abroad in Argentina for a semester. As a senior, I became a National Merit Scholar and earned a full scholarship to the University of Oklahoma, where I studied International and Area Studies: Latin America.
While in Oklahoma, I taught Spanish to english-speaking toddlers at a full-immersion Spanish preschool. I also studied abroad for another year in Peru and made friends with foreign exchange students from all over the world.
Once I moved back to California, I became a kindergarten teacher and even taught a year of middle school P.E.! Having (nearly!) taught it all, I believe I have finally landed in the perfect place for me.
I love teaching at Castro Valley High and I am so impressed with the Trojan students that I work with every day. Castro Valley Trojans are kind, curious, eager learners that inspire me to be hopeful about our future.
When I am not teaching, I love hiking with my therapy dog, Delilah or cuddling up to watch tv with my cat, Button. I also enjoy playing soccer, listening to podcasts, doing puzzles with friends, playing games with family, caring for my houseplants and cooking.
