Welcome to Ethnic Studies!

Intro to Ethnic Studies started here in Castro Valley at Canyon in the Fall of 2021 as a semester-long 8th grade elective. With the passage of Assembly Bill 101 later that Fall, Ethnic Studies had now become a state requirement for graduation at the high school level. The 8th grade course is an introductory course designed to educate students on the overarching themes of the Ethnic Studies Framework in conjunction with their 8th grade US History course. For those who take this elective, they will have advanced knowledge and be well prepared for when they take the course in their 9th grade year, if they attend a public high school.
