Past Updates

5/21

We've made it to the last week of school!! Hopefully this past week was a fun change of pace for your child! This week we are doing another math mystery and writing about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch/ocean pollution! I am wrapping up assessments early this week so that I can print and pack report cards for the pickup on Friday. I will be on the grass on Christianson from 10-11 if you would like to say hi, and then any remaining report cards will be on Lake Chabot in front of the office until the end of the day. There is a fifth grade drive thru promotion from 11-12, so it will be pretty trafficky at that time, you might want to avoid it if possible!

There's a spirit week next week Mon: Pjs, Tues: Sports Day, Wed: School spirit day, Thurs: Vacay Day.

I told the kids this week that my family and I are moving to the East Coast this summer. I'm not sure yet what that means for my teaching at CVUSD, whether I will be able to continue teaching virtually or if this is the end of my teaching in CV (at least for now!) I have loved my 10 years at Chabot, and will miss everyone, but I am excited for our new season where Mr. Fesmire will get to go to grad school (in person!) and our family gets to experience somewhere new!

5/14

I am excited to be back next week, and am looking forward to ending the year together. Just a couple notes about the end of the school year. We will begin testing on Monday, May 17. Most students have been signed up for an assessment time. I just emailed the parents whose children are not yet signed up, and will assign a time slot if any are needed!

During the last 2 weeks of school we will have our daily 8am check in, followed by asynchronous work and assessments. On Friday, May 21 we have (optional) art at 9am. The last week of school we have our final (optional) creative hour on Thursday at 9am. On the last day of school, Friday, May 28 we will have an extended final class meeting where we will play some games and celebrate and reflect on our learning for the year. This will be followed by report card pickup from Chabot Elementary. I will be on Christianson Ave from 10-11 for pickup if you would like to stop by and say hi/bye! If you are unable to make it during that time slot I will put the remaining report cards on the grass in front of the office (on Lake Chabot) until the end of the school day.2/26

Happy Friday! What a great week! The second graders did a great job learning the building blocks of multiplication and we started watching some fun videos by Mr. Demaio on YouTube where he sings SUPER catch songs to help learn to count by different numbers! I highly recommend checking them out and listening to them on repeat to help your kiddo be prepared to memorize his/her multiplication facts in 3rd grade. If your third grader is still struggling with memorizing facts this is a great way to practice too!

I am now on leave until May 17. I am thankful and excited that Mrs Olson will be our sub while I am out! Some students have graciously asked about delivering gifts for baby girl- if you drop something off at Chabot Mrs. Napoli (Huen) has offered to deliver them to me. That is very kind (and not necessary!!) but thank you! I will miss you all, but am very excited for our next adventure!

Have a great weekend!

2/19

Wow! I'm so impressed by the students' hard work on their writing this week! It was also the first time I sat down to grade assignments and one assignment had been completed by EVERY third grader (their grammar worksheet)!! I couldn't believe it! It's NEVER that easy to grade virtually! :)

Next week we've got some fun (optional) spirit days for a week celebrating kindness. It's going to be a great week! Our supply pickup will be Wednesday, Feb 24 from 8-3. Supplies will be on a table, sorted by grade level, outside the office. If you can't pick up Wednesday Ms. Winding assured me she will put out the supplies again on Thursday. Thanks so much!

Email 2/18

Today we completed our end of trimester writing on demand. I gave the students a prompt and 25 minutes to show me what they can do in a limited time. They (appear to be) doing great!! When time ran out in class I told them they can finish it, but shouldn't spend TOO much longer working (no more than 20 minutes). When they are done I asked that they turn it in by taking a photo in google classroom. If this isn't working they can also just have you email me a photo. Some students are taking photos that I can't read because they're too light/the camera quality isn't great/they're holding their books too far away. I am commenting on these students' slides to ask them to retake their pictures or have you email me a photo. Thanks for your help in having the kids "turn in" their hard copies :)

Tomorrow our sub, Mrs. Olson, is planning on joining our morning meeting so students have a chance to meet her before her official first day in March. We added her as a co-host in our class zoom meeting, so hopefully we won't need to transition any links! I told the kiddos that I told her she has the freedom to change up the schedule however works for her. Just like trimester 1 had a different daily schedule than trimester 2 because we were learning different things, trimester 3 will look different as well! Thank you for your patience and support as everyone adjusts! :)

Finally, we are having a supply pickup on Wednesday, Feb 24. The exact times will be posted on the class website tomorrow. If you are unable to pick up supplies on Wednesday you can get them from the office. Depending on the grade level they may need their supplies starting the following Monday.2/12

Happy Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day and Presidents' Day! What a packed holiday weekend! There is no school Monday!

The kids have been doing a great job publishing their chapter books this week! It's been so much fun checking out their writing this week as I put together our class website! Next week we will be sharing our writing, but be sure to check out the website this weekend! (Let me know if there are any issues!)

My due date is quickly approaching, and assignments are scheduled to automatically assign to students just in case baby girl decides to come early! :) Don't worry, we have a sub, but if she decides to come early there may be a slight hiccup in our daily routine! If I miss any meetings please keep an eye out for emails of changes to meeting links. (We're working on getting this setup ahead of time, so hopefully it won't be an issue!)

Thank you in advance for your patience and grace for the students as well as our sub as we transition! As much as I will miss them while I'm out I know it's going to be a great experience for them to get to work with someone new! Here's hoping it won't happen for another couple weeks as planned :) 2/5

What a great week! We've been working really hard to revise and edit our writing in order to publish our books next week! Students can publish their books by writing them on Google slides and then printing them, or by hand writing physical books, or any combination of the two! When they're finished they will send me a video, pictures, or slideshow of their books that I can post on a class website to celebrate our writing! We will be sharing our books the week of Presidents' Day!

Just a reminder: assessments and quizzes are one of the main ways I can score students' work. Please do not help your child on quizzes or assessments. You are welcome to read a question to your child, but do not help him/her interpret or solve it. I have had quite a few kids in the last couple weeks say "I had the right answer but my mom/dad told me I did it wrong"! I can only help your child learn if I can see how he/she is struggling!

If you haven't already, you will receive an email about an alternative testing schedule for Trimester 2. That schedule does not apply to our class. As you know our class is following a different schedule: third grade did their reading and math assessments this week, and second grade's assessments are next week. This is to ensure that all assessments and report cards are complete before baby arrives in (hopefully) March! :) Same as last trimester, report cards will be emailed to you on the release date.

Finally, I have one more supply pickup prepared for you before I go on leave. I haven't yet set the date because I am waiting to see if any more math materials arrive to save you a second trip to school! Included in this supply pickup is a book club book which students will need to return to me in May. This is the only school supply that they will need to return. All math and science texts are yours to keep. Feel free to use them as review or reading material! :)

1/29

Happy Friday! We did a LOT of work this week! Next week students are revising and editing their chapter books in order to get them ready to publish the week of Feb 8. We will be sharing our chapter books the week of Presidents' Day. They've been working REALLY hard and should be super proud of all they've accomplished so far!

This week third grade has no daily 9:45 meeting due to reading assessments. In math they are working on a "Shapes of CV" area review project. If you would rather have your child print out and do the assignments on paper rather than on google drive you can print out this document for the week and turn in photos of their work each day.

Second grade will be assessed next week. Thanks everyone for signing up!

1/22

I hope you all had a great week! I wanted to remind you that the badge board is one way I keep track of what students have turned in. It's not updated real-time, I have to update each assignment individually, but I make sure it is updated every morning before school starts and as much as possible during the day. On Friday morning you can check your child's badge board to see what he/she has not yet finished for the week to help guide his/her work for the day. You can also check their google classroom. On Friday ALL the icons should be light grey. Dark grey icons are items that have not yet been turned in.

I am going to be starting trimester testing a little early in February (just in case baby girl decides to come early!!) Third grade testing is scheduled for the first week of February and an email went out yesterday for signups for testing times. Second grade testing will be Feb 8-12 and an email will go out next week to sign up for a testing time. Testing is (as much as possible) taking place around/during normal grade level meeting times (3rd 9:40-10:40; 2nd 8:40-9:40).

While the testing signups are live the office hours link will not be working. Please email me if you need to sign up for office hours!

1/15

Happy Friday! This week we started drafting our chapter books! Second graders need to have at least 2 chapters in their books (plus the introduction and conclusion) and third graders need to have at least 3 chapters in their books (plus introduction and conclusion).

Third graders are halfway through module 4 in math and will be wrapping up in a couple weeks, and will start their end of the trimester testing. Information about that will come out soon!

Second graders have a much longer module 4 and will take their mid-module assessment at the end of the month. I will schedule their assessments after third grade is finished.

Whew! What a week! I hope you and your families were able have a relaxing and fun break from school, and have transitioned back into our school year. I hope the new format of our playlists has been helpful in keeping your child focused and organized.

The events of this week have affected individuals and families in various ways. If we were in the classroom all day together I am sure these events would have come up and as a result we would have had a class discussion. However, due to the nature of our current virtual classroom, the ages of our students, and the limited time we spend in class each day I have not discussed any national events with the class and do not intend to in order to allow you to have conversations (or not) with your children as you deem appropriate.

We are beginning writing chapter books this week! Students picked their topics last week and we will spend the next few weeks planning ideas and writing books about a topic that students are an expert on! In the end students will create and publish their own chapter book. It's a fun project and I can't wait to learn from all our kiddos! :)

12/18

Happy Friday! The kids have done amazing work on their holiday research projects and it's time for my favorite day of the year- Hat day! I loved getting to see everyone dressed in their hats and learning about the holidays they studied! I got a little teary-eyed seeing them all in their PJs and wearing their hats. Today is my favorite day of the school year and I loved getting to see and hear them share, but missed actually being in the classroom together!

Our playlists will be changing after break, hopefully they will be more user-friendly and help everyone stay on task! If you're looking for something fun (and distanced) to do this weekend, check out the CV/Eden Area drive by light parade! Also, I told the kids this morning- I have a friend who's an art teacher and is offering art classes over break.

I hope you all have a safe, relaxing, tech-free winter break! I will see you all next year!

12/4

Happy Friday! Yesterday the kids told me that the hardest thing they did this week was get back into the routine of school after a week long break, and I had to agree! They all did an awesome job though! This week we started learning how to take notes about different winter holidays around the world. Next week we will continue taking notes, organize what we learned and then plan paragraphs (2nd grade) and essays (3rd grade) that show what we know. The following week students will write and edit their writing and also design a hat to show off everything they learned! On our last class meeting before break (Dec 18) we will wear our hats and teach each other what we learned.

We are all continuing in module 3 with the plan to take our end of module assessments before break. We are also continuing our study of informational reading in order to prepare for informational writing after break. Please help your child be sure to complete ALL his/her daily assignments so they get full credit for participating in both synchronous and asynchronous work!

Report cards will be mailed out this afternoon. Please let me know if you haven't received your report card by 2pm! 11/29

I hope you all had a relaxing, healthy Thanksgiving Break! We have a TON going on this week! We have a supply pickup this Tuesday, Dec 1 from 8am-3pm. Students will be receiving their packets for our holiday research project as well as some art supplies to use in Friday's art project and later in the year! Supplies will be in a box on the grass in front of the office. Please let me know if you are unable to pick up on Tuesday so we can arrange an alternate pickup time.

We only have 3 weeks before winter break, and we're going to make them count! In math, second grade is wrapping up module 3 before break, and third grade is working their way toward the end of module 3 as well! We are all studying main idea in reading informational text, although some of the slides will be optional for second grade (they are third grade standards, but some of our younger readers are very strong and might want to challenge themselves!) Our holiday research project allows us to practice what we are learning in our reading unit by reading informational texts on our own to learn about holidays around the world! Students will creatively share their reading at the end of the unit with a writing assignment and by designing a holiday hat. It is one of my favorite projects we do all year!!

11/16

Happy Monday! We have one more week before a week-long Thanksgiving break! This week we are adding another grade level meeting each week. Second grade meets Monday & Wednesday, Third grade meets Tuesday and Thursday, all at 9:15.

There are some amazing opportunities happening this week. First, tomorrow (Tuesday) night we're having a school-wide publishing party!! Sign up your child to attend a breakout room with other Chabot students where they will have the opportunity to share their hard work on their small moment stories!

Thursday is picture day. If you would like to sign up to have your child's photo taken (for the yearbook, and optional packages for purchase) use this link. Appointment times are between 12:00-5:00.

Finally, Mrs. Paratore is having a Pumpkin Pie baking zoom event Thursday night! Sign up to bake with Mrs. Paratore and let us know if you would like to pick up baking supplies from Chabot.UPDATE 11/9

Thanks so much for your understanding today as the internet was out district-wide for most of the day! Tomorrow we will (hopefully) be back on as scheduled.

Students have been reading their personal narrative stories out loud to the class. A few students have not yet presented and I told them they will be sharing tomorrow. I also told those students I would be reaching out to you directly to make sure that they have their stories and are ready to read, however in the chaos of the internet outage I left my list at school! Please check in with your child to find out if he/she has already read or needs to read tomorrow! Sorry about that! If they would rather record themselves reading out loud and send me a video to share that's fine too! I have shared with them that this oral presentation is part of their grading for the trimester, so it is not optional.

The students have done such a great job on their writing, and they are all invited to our school-wide publishing party next Tuesday night on Zoom! Check out the flyer on our class website for more info as well as details about picture day and a baking night with Mrs. Paratore!

Finally, we are moving into a new trimester Monday and will have new groupings instead of our reading groups. Beginning next week Second grade will meet Monday and Wednesday from 9:15-9:45/10 and Third Grade will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 9:15-9:45/10. We will also have additional RTI slots between 10-11 as needed for students who need support.

Have a great week! Remember, there's no school Wednesday! We've been studying landforms over the past 2 weeks. Maybe you can spend your Veterans Day taking a walk up Fairmont Ridge to checkout the landforms of Castro Valley and the East Bay! It's an amazing view and a great opportunity for students to talk about what they're learning!

11/6

We had a great week listening to many of the students' published small moment stories! If your child hasn't shared yet he/she has the option to record a video of him/herself reading and email it to me to share, or to share it on Monday with the class! I am SO impressed at everyone's hard work!

Next week is another odd week. We have no school Wednesday for Veterans Day. Tuesday we have optional "recess" groups meeting. 9:15 is the Lego group, and 9:45 is Origami. Students are welcome to come and share their creations! Friday we have another art project!

We are working on wrapping up Trimester 1, and will be transitioning into informational reading after we finish our fairy tales unit this week. Both first and third grade are finishing Module 1 and moving on to Module 3 in math. We've got a lot of transitions happening, let me know if you have any questions!

11/2

Well who would've thought in March that we'd still be virtual learning on Halloween?! Not me!!

Well, we're at the end of Trimester 1, and this week I will be assessing some students to see their reading progress. I will also be doing a writing assessment and we've been working on math quizzes to check student progress.

This week is mostly independent work due to the testing- and I have made some changes to our playlist. The playlists were getting a little too large and taking a while to load, so I have split them up to make them more manageable. Each day students click on a big red button to take them to that day's assignments. In order to cut back on work for myself I also shared with you the daily assignment breakdown instead of creating an additional document. BE SURE that you're looking at the correct grade level!

I had a great time seeing so many of you at the Halloween parade Friday!! I hope you all had a great weekend!!

10/23

Happy Friday! Our next few weeks are going to look a little different!

  1. Next week we will have new math assignments. Each day students will have a math slide which tells them what to do. We are starting to work less with pathblazer and more with Eureka math & Zearn.

  2. I added math groups during some of our office hours on Tuesday & Thursday in case your child has questions about the math or needs help accessing the materials.

  3. Our FINAL reading groups and book clubs for the trimester will be happening on Tuesday & Wednesday

  4. Friday we will have an art project at 9:15 for students who are interested!

  5. Friday the parent club is hosting a reverse parade. It will happen from 1:30-4:00 with time slots by last name to help reduce traffic.

  6. The first week of November is set aside for testing. There will be no tiger talk, reading groups, or science/RTI during this time. Sign ups are for students who need assessing (not all students need to be tested at this time). Emails went home earlier this week to those students who need to sign up for a time slot.

I think that's it for now! :)

10/16

Thanks to those third grade parents who came and picked up supplies this week. If you didn't get your supplies you can come pick them up on Tuesday from 8-11 during the 2nd grade supply pickup! This is the last week of the 12:00 community circle. Following this week there will be no more 12:00 class meetings.

This week we are heading toward the end of our writing unit, which will be published in just a couple weeks! We are continuing book clubs and reading groups. If your child is in a book club, please remind him/her to be completing the tasks ahead of the book club reading. That assignment is on google classroom. I am beginning a new math system with third grade this week, introducing students to zearn. Once we've got it settled we will work on a similar system in second grade to help supplement the pathblazer curriculum.

I will be testing SOME students at the end of the trimester to assess progress in reading. I will not need to meet with students who are far above the required reading level. If you receive an email about signing up for a testing time (or if I assign you a testing time) your child will be tested. Thanks so much!

10/9

Wow! The trimester is flying past!! We are wrapping up our final few weeks of Trimester 1, and I am working hard to come up with some new and engaging activities for the students. I know the routine can be becoming... less than fun... but I have to say I'm still learning how to stay on top of everything! We do have some changes coming- our FINAL community circle meeting is on 10/20, and our book clubs/reading groups will be adjusted following the testing at the end of the trimester. I told students we might be working toward introducing zearn this week. But getting everyone setup onto the site can be tricky! :) I'm still troubleshooting this with my team! Thank you for your patience as we go through the ebbs and flows of virtual learning!

Some students seem to think that if schools reopen that they will be coming back into the classroom. Please be sure to check in with your child and make sure that he/she understands that no matter what happens for the rest of Chabot, that we are a part of CVVPE and will be entirely virtual for the whole 20/21 school year.

10/2/20

This week we had an amazing start to our reading groups and book clubs! This week was also the start to some more split grade level time and assignments- so you will notice that going forward there is a separate weekly overview for 2nd and 3rd grades, as well as separate writing assignments. Many of our writing assignments are asking students to share more with me than just their writing- for example this week they were supposed to show me their "spelling strategy", how they will make sure they are doing their best spelling while they are writing! Many kids still just sent me a photo of what they wrote, but didn't have a spelling strategy to share. Third grade has also begun learning cursive, which is listed in the "Extra time" activities on their playlist but should get done each week.

We're making great progress in all areas- some kids are passing their addition tests on xtramath, and moving on to the subtraction tests already! If your child is in a book club it is his/her responsibility to make sure they've read their assigned portion AND completed the assignments before Wednesday's meeting. I will not be checking up on them except during the Wednesday meeting. If your child is in a reading group I showed them how to use learning A-Z to access books that we're reading together, and also to record themselves reading! Any of these activities- book club work AND learning A-Z count toward their 15 minutes of daily reading. Science reading can also count for this activity as well as long as they are reading for at least 15-20 minutes a day!

9/24/20

It was AWESOME getting to meet with our grade level groups this week and do some number talks! I've missed getting to hang out with the kids and hear how their brains work! We will continue our grade level meetings, and next week we are starting reading groups/book clubs. Check out the schedule to the left to see when each group meets. If you are unsure of which group your child is in please check his/her google classroom stream for a message from me, or your email from last week with the reading group announcements!

9/18/20

Happy Friday! We had a great week this week! Next week we are starting our grade level breakouts- second grade is Monday 9:15-9:45/10 and Third grade is Thursday 9:15-9:45/10. Both groups use the classroom zoom link. It is a shortened week (for conferences) so there is slightly less work, no live labs for science, and no school Friday! If your child has book recommendations for his/her classmates please share them on the padlet! Lots of parents are asking for suggestions! :)

UPDATE 9/14:

Xtramath parent info

Good morning families!

We’ve got some exciting changes coming up in our schedule!

  1. Next week is set aside for minimum days for conferences and no school Friday. As you know- I will have already met with all the families before next week, so I will instead be planning out our book clubs and reading groups during the additional prep time. The changes for our class will be that we will have a lighter workload for the week and no school Friday. We will not have live science labs next week (8/22 & 23) but we WILL have community circle Tuesday at 12:00!

  2. Grade level meetings start next week (8/21)! Second grade will be meeting with me Mondays from 9:15-9:45/10 and Third grade will be meeting with me Thursdays from 9:15-9:45/10. During this time we will discuss math and other grade-specific topics!

  3. RTI begins next week! If your child is eligible for RTI support you received an email from Mrs. Schwartz about it earlier today. Let me know if you have any questions.

  4. Book clubs/Reading groups are starting the week of September 28. I will be emailing out specific days/times for Book clubs separately.

I am updating our classroom google calendar to include these new activities. You can find the google calendar from our class website or through your child’s google account (make sure the “Mrs. Fesmire’s Tigers” calendar is turned on!)

9/11/20

I hope everyone had a great week and stayed safe and sane in the crazy smoky haze! We are rolling on pathblazer now! Because every child is moving at a different pace, and working on different skills I can sometimes fall behind tracking their work and assigning the next learning path/activity. If your child ever sees a whole page of activities and no snowflake to follow they can fill out the "HELP" form on Google classroom. That helps me track their progress and make sure they are learning as much as possible at all times!

It's been great checking in with so many of you, and I look forward to meeting with the rest of you this week! Be sure to check out the resource page for a list of questions you can ask your child about what he/she is reading. The lists are divided by reading level and include questions about fiction and non-fiction texts.

Have a great weekend!

9/4/20

Happy Friday!

This weekend is Labor Day, so there is no school Monday! I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend! Last week we worked on our math and reading diagnostic pre-tests. This week students will begin working on their learning paths. They will "follow the snowflake" as it tracks them through the learning path. When they've finished the end of the path they will take the post-assessment to determine if they are prepared to move on to the next learning plan! Depending on your child's level of mastery he/she may take until November to complete the learning path, or could possibly finish sooner! Every child is on a unique learning path! Some students tested high enough to pass the learning path and move on to the next one. These students will be assigned the next level diagnostic to assign them onto the next path. On Tuesday morning we will review these paths and how to "follow the snowflake!"

If you have not yet signed up for a conference, please use the link under "upcoming events" to pick a day to meet and review your child's assessments. If you have any questions or need help please email me to sign up for office hours!

8/28/20

Happy Friday!

Thanks so much for taking the time to come to Back to School Night, or to watch the video! I appreciate all your questions, and am so happy to say that we are starting to get into a rhythm here as kids are learning how to use the various platforms!

My calendly office hours signup is currently not working (my free trial ran out!) it will be working again once everyone has signed up for a reading assessment time! :) In the meantime please email me to sign up for an office hour appointment!

This week will look VERY similar to last week. We're taking our diagnostic assessments in pathblazer math and reading- these tests will assess which areas of focus for the trimester students have already mastered, and which they need to work on! Students will NOT have to relearn something they already know! Then we will be able to get started on our learning paths! (Yay! This will be MUCH more fun than assessments!) For reading we will continue our study of genre with the same style playlist as last week. In writing students are spending more time writing in their writing notebooks. Finally, we are adding a science playlist this week! Students need to read the assigned pages (either in their physical science books, or digitally online) and complete the google form exit ticket for credit!

8/24/20

Happy Monday! I just wanted to touch base about this week's work. I gave a LOT more assignments this week. We have a reading, math, and writing activity each day, as well as a SEL activity (rules poster).

The purpose of these activities is 1. to get students used to completing work, 2. to assess where they're at in reading and math, and 3. to find out how independent our class is!

PLEASE don't let the work frustrate you or your child! If you have questions I have office hours! You can use that link to sign up for a time up to an hour before (until 9:50am for same day appointments), or you can email me and I will get back to you ASAP!

I HOPE that pathblazer works for us this week!! I had some technical difficulties over the weekend, but they seem to be fixed. If there are issues please let me know and I will pass that on to Mr. HS!

Finally, if you haven't yet signed your child up for a reading assessment please use this link to sign up. For some reason Calendly is assigning new zoom links for these meetings- PLEASE IGNORE THOSE and use our class zoom link!!! I will have to check the settings and adjust them for the future!

Thank you so much, and I hope to see you tomorrow night at 6 for our Back to School Night! (for parents with multiple children- slideshows are posted on the link Mr. HS sent out yesterday, and many teachers will be/have included videos. My video will be posted tomorrow evening.) We will have a 15-minute presentation by me in our class zoom meeting, followed by Q&A using this link. at 6:30 Mr. HS will be presenting/answering questions in a separate google meet.

I am hoping that we will get settled into our new program and the length and frequency of my emails will reduce GREATLY! In the meantime, thank you so much for your support and understanding! See you tomorrow!

8/22/20

Thank you for taking the time to come pick up school supplies on Friday! Please sign up your child for a time to complete reading assessments this week or next. If these times don't work for you please email me!

This week we are beginning a bit more of our school work, as well as starting to take the math and reading screeners on Pathblazers. The screeners tell me and the program exactly what your child needs to work on this year, it is essential that they do not receive any parent support other than helping them with technology! I will not know where your child is struggling if he/she receives help during the assessment. The test is adaptive- which means the questions get progressively harder as students answer them correctly. There will come a point where your child does NOT know the answer, and that's good! If your child gets frustrated, have him/her take a break! I have only assigned them to work on the screener 15-20 minutes per day (per test). I would like them to finish the math screener this week, and get as far as they can in reading. If they don't finish the reading screener that's okay! We will have time to finish next week.

On Tuesday our class gets to meet with Mrs. Gilmore at noon to have our first community circle! These meetings are offered every other week and will use a different zoom code than our class meeting. The zoom link and password are found in this week's playlist on Tuesday (it is also found on our class calendar).8/17/20

We made it through the first "week" of school! Great job parents! The kids did an awesome job as well!! This week I have tried to frontload as much as possible by including the entire week's playlist. (Posted on our website and google classroom). Although some minor items may change, this will hopefully help you look ahead through the week and plan accordingly. I can't promise to have the entire week posted every week, but I will do my best to give you time to work flexibly. If you are ever in need of extra time to work on something, please let me know!

I will be meeting with the students individually this week to touch base, get to know each other, and run through a quick reading assessment. I will have follow up appointments to assess them more deeply in the next couple weeks, using the same scheduling program. Thanks so much for signing up, I've never used Calendly before but it is AMAZING to have the signups go straight to my google calendar!

Tonight is the parent info night! I hope you can make it to hear from Mr. Hansen-Schmitt and get your questions answered! Next week we will have back to school night! Friday will be the supply pickup from 12-1pm. More specific details will come about supply pickups once I have them! :)

Welcome back to school! I will use this website to help organize information, share important dates, and keep links together!
