BIOLOGY COURSE OUTLINE: This course is a college preparatory lab science course which focuses on the cell and its development into complex plant and animal systems, ecology, genetics, human impact and evolution.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE OUTLINE: This is a rigorous course that will go over human anatomy and the major physiological processes contained within the human body. In addition to an overview of basic anatomical and physiological concepts, the anatomy and physiology of the following body systems will be covered: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, and digestive systems.

COURSE MATERIALS: THE FOLLOWING MATERIALS WILL BE AVAILABLE…

  • 3-ring Binder (Bring your papers and binder every day!!!)
  • Notebook Paper (preferably college ruled)
  • Something to write with
  • colored pencils and a calculator
  • Dividers (4)


CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be respectful to others and yourself.
  • Be in your seat when the bell rings and working on the Warm-Up/Do Now.
  • Follow all laboratory safety rules and instructions.


CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:

BIOLOGY START OF CLASS: When you enter the room, pick up your Warm-Up off the table by the door, go to your assigned seat and begin working on the Warm-Up. You may ask your neighbors for help but you must stay in your seat and talk quietly to one another regarding the Warm-Up. You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat and working on the Warm-Up when the bell rings. If you are tardy, you are not able to answer your Warm-Up for the day and lose those 2 points for the day.

ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY START OF CLASS: When you enter the room, pick up your Do Now off the table by the door, go to your assigned seat and begin working on the Do Now. You may ask your neighbors for help but you must stay in your seat and talk quietly to one another regarding the Do Now. You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat and working on the Do Now when the bell rings. If you are tardy, you are not able to answer your Do Now for the day and lose those 2 points for the day.

HALL PASSES: Only one student is allowed out of the room at a time. No pass will be given out when I am presenting material or giving instructions on any task. If you abuse your bathroom privileges, then you will not be allowed to leave the room for the remainder of the semester.

LATE WORK: All of your work goes into your binder. It is your responsibility to come in and make up any work if you are gone. You will have the same number of days absent to turn in or take any tests, quizzes, or packets that you missed during an excused absence. After that NO CREDIT will be given unless there are special circumstances and you talk to me before that time is up. If you miss the class because of a school activity (sports, theater, etc.) you must see me that same day to turn-in work, take a quiz, etc.


CHEATING: Any time you take another person’s work and present it as your own you are cheating. The policy for cheating will be strictly adhered to as described in the CVHS Student Handbook. NO CHEATING WILL BE TOLERATED…….DO NOT EVEN LET IT LOOK LIKE YOU MAY BE CHEATING!!!!! In other words, it is NOT worth it!!!!

LAB TABLES: It is a privilege to be able to work at a lab table during labs, activities or when you are working independently on an assignment. The lab table rules will be reviewed during the first week.


GRADING:

Quarter grade: Semester grade:

40% Classwork, Homework 40% First/Third Quarter

60% Assessment (Tests, Quizzes, Projects) 40% Second/Fourth Quarter

20% Final Exam


Grading scale: The student's grade will be based on the following approximate grading scale:

90% for an A; 80% for a B; 70% for a C; 60% for a D

ELECTRONICS: You may be able to listen to music when you are working independently on an assignment. If you are caught listening to music during an inappropriate time, then the device will be taken and turned into the office. A cell phone should NEVER be visible. If you carry a cell phone, you should keep it off or on vibrate and have it put away at all times.

***IF STUDENTS ABUSE THE ELECTRONICS PRIVILEGE, THEN NO ELECTRONICS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE ROOM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.


FOOD/DRINKS: No food or drinks are allowed in the room during labs. However, as long as all trash is properly thrown away, you may have snacks and drinks at your seat when we are not doing labs.

****IF STUDENTS ABUSE THE FOOD/DRINKS PRIVILEGE, THEN NO FOOD/DRINKS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE ROOM UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Organization--Being organized is the key to success in any course! There may be unannounced binder checks to help you stay organized. Your binder should have the following sections labeled:


1) Class Info 2) Notes 3) Assignment Log(BIO) OR Work(A&P) 4) Graded Work


Keep a Positive Attitude and Ask for Help--I want you to succeed and enjoy class. Be sure to ask for help (teacher, parents/guardians, and other students) whenever you need it!! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!!
