I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to seventh grade World History or eighth grade United States History. For your seventh grader this class will focus on broadening your child's knowledge of the world around us, the Middle Ages, and developing as citizens of Canyon Middle School. This seventh grade school year, 2019-2020, we will focus on building our skills and developing as citizens in preparation for eight grade. If your student is an eighth grader this year this class will be a comprehensive overview of United States history from pre-European America to Reconstruction while incorporating geography and current events. This eighth grade school year, 2019-2020, we will focus on building our skills and developing as citizens in preparation for high school.
Homework: All homework assignments must be recorded in the student’s binder reminder. Homework will be assigned every time class meets and will be due on the following class day unless otherwise stated. Seventh grade students can use a SOAR ticket to turn in a late assignment for full credit within 3 school days, while eighth grade students will use five SOAR tickets. Completed late work turned in without a SOAR ticket is worth 75%, while missing work is worth zero. Students missing five or more assignments will receive a teacher detention during which the assignments will be completed. Homework assignments are to be completed on an individual basis. Working together does not mean copying and turning in the exact same words as another student.
Project Policy: Throughout the year several projects will be assigned. Late projects will be accepted but the project grade will drop by a letter grade each day it is late. Projects should be completed regardless of how late they are because they are a significant part of this class.
