When Do I get to check-out books?

Your classroom visits are scheduled weekly by your teacher in collaboration with the librarian.

How many books may be checked out at a time? How long do I have to read and return them?

A student in K-1 is allowed 1 book at any one time. Students in 2-5th are allowed 2 books at any one time. The checkout period is two weeks, and you may renew twice.

Can I check out a new book if I have a book past due?

K-1 No, you must turn in any overdue books before checking out another.

2nd-5th No, if you have 2 books past due. Yes, if you only have one book out and it is not past due by 2 weeks.

If you are not finished reading the book, but it is due for return, simply bring it to the Library for renew.

How do I find a book to check out?

Our library uses an online catalog, Destiny Discover. On this webpage, go to the HOME page and click on the header VANNOY LIBRARY. It will take you to our school CATALOG. You may search by title, author, or subject. The site will also show if the book is available for check out.

We currently have three Library Catalog Search stations for your convenience. If you need assistance please ask our school librarian, teacher, or the classroom volunteer.

The book I want is checked out, can I put in a request to read it next?

Yes, see the librarian at the main desk to request a HOLD on any title. We will physically hold the book when it is returned, and reserve it for you for one week.

What if I lose or irreparably damage a book?

A replacement fine will be applied to your account. The notice fee will be sent home.

Unfortunately, no more books may be checked out to you until the fine is paid for the missing or damaged book. In some cases special arrangements may be made, email or speak with a librarian.

May I eat and drink in the library?

No, we do not allow food, gum, or drinks, in order to protect our books, computers, and carpeting.

I would like to volunteer.

We love to have student volunteers! 3-5th graders may pick up an application from the library main counter. Volunteers must complete a training session.

Can I use the student computer for classwork/homework/research?

Yes, if your teacher/librarian give you permission. School guidelines regarding appropriate student use of technology apply. No social media, online shopping, or watching of movies/television shows/sports games as these are disruptive and not suitable in a school environment. For music or audio content, use headphones or earbuds.
