The Teacher Residency program gives CSU East Bay General Education and Ed Specialist teaching credential candidates a robust, paid, full-year student teaching experience in a Mentor Teacher’s classroom in a Castro Valley school.
During that year, the Teacher Resident will be observing, learning, and co-teaching. The Mentor Teacher will provide support, feedback, and opportunities for the Teacher Resident to practice what they are learning in their university coursework. By the end of the year, Teacher Residents are expected to be doing a significant amount of teaching.
Teacher Residents will receive a one-year stipend of $33,750 that can be used at their discretion to pay for tuition, books, or living expenses.
Following successful completion of the Teacher Residency program, Teacher Residents must commit to remaining in a California public school district for a minimum of four additional years in the eight years following receiving their preliminary credential.
