Adults and teens have an upbringing they can look back at. We remember our childhood and adolescent years vividly because of the mental and physical changes we experienced during that era. Old memories always stick with us, whether it's memories with good friends or grueling work. My inquiry centers around the bumpy transition from an innocent childhood to an exciting yet blunt stage of adolescence.
My works are based on my experiences and thoughts while growing up and being in high school. My story centers around Memphis, a high school student whom his younger self accompanies. The integration of younger Memphis in the series compares the past and present and takes inspiration from the movie "Paprika." My first work, “A Dead Bird,” was based on seeing animal carcasses on the mile trail in middle school. My style has that sharp, graphic cartoon look in old shows like "My Life As a Teenage Robot" and "Clone High." The rough linework and textured brushes give the art a chalky look, furthering my idea of exploring childhood. My series intends to resonate with other teens, but I hope those still figuring out the world around them or struggling to grow up and adapt can connect with it.
