In my sustained investigation, I wanted to create a time capsule for myself during my senior year of high school. Almost like a love letter to my life now, that I can look back on later, moments that remind me of how life used to be. I take these memories and make them something physical.
With my series, I wanted to be able to create a color palette that portrayed how these moments made me feel, letting the viewer look through my eyes. As a first-time AP art student last year, I had this idea in my head that my art had to come from negative head spaces and memories so that I could convey deep emotions, but as I went on into my second year, I realized that those emotions were tying me down and I should allow myself to have fun with my work, so I strayed away from dark color palettes and used brighter happier ones instead. As my style progressed, I played more with my use of colors and perspective, selecting distorted reference pictures, as you can see in Fish Face and Shapes and Colors.
