My series is about climate change. I want to show how damaging we are to the environment because we are heading to a place in the future in which everything we call nature will be gone. The characters and their expressions represent how I feel trapped by particular issues, including deforestation, acid rain, toxic gases, sewage, melting at the polar ice caps, catastrophic fires, and devastating droughts.
I start by doing research, so I can have a better understanding of the specific effects of each environmental problem I show. I then look for reference photos that show how damaging the issue is and use those to construct my own dramatized version of the issue, as though in a different world or in a dream. My mood with colors is meant to feel like the world is going to end from how little life is shown in the works. I use dark colors with cross-hatching, shading, depth, and a semi-realistic feel to make it feel like the world is going to end from how little life is shown in these monochromatic spaces. I have seen the damage we have done to our environment. These works provide a preview of what our world could become.
